A World Class Event by Sherran Andersen

Fans of the seafaring life are turning their attention to Canada ’s Pacific coast for the 2008 Tall Ships Challenge®.

The series of races along the west coast of Canada and the United States , will kick-off with a Tall Ships Festival in the coastal city of Victoria , British Columbia , June 26 -29, 2008.

More than two dozen tall ships from around the world are expected to sail into Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Our full of life city is first port of call in the 2008 race series.

With a rich maritime history and the mildest climate in Canada, Victoria will stage a family-friendly Tall Ships Festival that will feature ship tours, concerts, art displays and children’s programs.

A successful festival in 2005 showcased Victoria as an international destination of choice -- a reputation that continues to gain momentum with mariners from around the world. The following feature ships have confirmed their participation:

Victoria Tall Ships Packages

More than two dozen tall ships from around the world are expected to sail into Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Our full of life city is the first port of call in the 2008 race series and Victoria’s scenic Inner Harbour will provide the backdrop for an event that will touch the hearts and minds of thousands. During four unforgettable days of revelry and celebration, we will commemorate the city’s maritime heritage with the historic visit of over two dozen tall ships from around the world.

This renowned international event means Victoria will have an unprecedented opportunity to experience history at first hand. Visitors will be able to walk the decks, touch the massive timbers, look up through the rigging at the sky, and turn back the clock to a time when our city's future was being built by ships like these.

In addition, we are planning an ambitious program of interactive educational activities, concerts, craft fairs and festive events that will celebrate our history and BC’s 150th anniversary. Free Spirit: Stories of You, Me and BC is a major feature exhibition at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria, celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of British Columbia as a Crown Colony.
