CARL's summer reading program is "Catch the Reading Bug." It
is aimed primarily at children ages 2-12, with reading logs and
prizes and a party tentatively scheduled for 1 August. We currently
have over 88 children signed up for the program. Please come to the
1st floor Reference desk to sign up
and get your starter bag.
The
CARL is participating in an Army wide MWR event featuring American
Girl books, and a tie in to the upcoming movie, Kit Kittredge,
American Girl. Our American Girls promotion will run until
30 June and is open to girls between the ages of 6 and 16, who can
enter and win local prizes. Come see our fabulous displays. A party
is tentatively scheduled for 1 July. For information on the national
Grand Prize, a trip to an American Girl store, drop on in and check
out the rules.
We
are also the home of the Army Community Service Collection.
This is a specialized collection of books and CDs selected to help
military families. Subjects covered include: finances,
deployment, job resumes, and parenting. These are located on
the first floor, near the DVD collection, in the Audio-Visual room.
There
are also several displays of new community materials throughout the
library. We have two new displays in June. One on parenting
located on the 2nd floor, and one on computers, located by the L&C
door. Future displays will highlight crafts, small business,
self-help, and art and music.
The CARL
materials come in many formats, including books (bestsellers,
fiction, non-fiction, science fiction & mysteries), popular books on
tape or CDs, movie videos and DVDs (classic and
children's videos
and the latest blockbuster releases), popular magazines and
major
newspapers. The library also provides electronic information like:
full text magazines and newspaper databases available both in the
library and on the Internet through our
Links.
The CARL has assembled digital full text versions of books such
as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction,
and 3,400 publicly-accessible titles. The best way to learn about eBooks is to experience them, so
