     Worldwide Economic Forum (Davos Forum)
     The history of formation
     In 1970 the prof, of Geneva University Clause Shvab made a speech on the initiative of gathering all the leaders of Europe in the mountainous city of Switzerland Davos. In January 1971 these leaders gathered informally in the conference held in Davos to discuss issues on the experience of global business administration. This event made K.Shvab form the European Administration Forum. The annual meeting of the organization held in Davos is considered the global summit determining the economic agenda. Since 1977 in order to assist the development of the countries the organization has begun to organize Forums in countries. Through this way it helps the integration of different countries to the world economy. In 1987 the organization was called the Worldwide Economic Forum. In 1988 the residence of the Forum was transferred from Davos to Geneve. The WEF possesses the status of counseling as a non-governmental organization attached to the ECOSOC. In 2002 the annual meeting of the Forum was not held in Davos but in New York as a symbol of unanimity with New York because of the 11th September terror acts.

     The main aims
     The WEF helps to determine the problems that the society faces and plays a role of a platform where these problems discussed. The duty of the Forum consists of providing the collaboration in business and social fields in order to improve the economic situation of the world.

     Financial issues
     There are three main sources of financing the activity of the Forum:
  • the membership fees of more than thousand companies that are members of the Forum
  • the fee that comes from strategic partners
  • the participation fees of the private companies for taking part in the annual, regional meetings and in the summits
     The administration of the WEF
     The Forum has three main organs:
     1.The duty of the Staff organized of the representatives of the international public and private sectors is to determine the long-termed aims and obligations of the Forum;
     2. The duty of the Council of Forum is to provide the participation of the members and partners in the activity of the Forum
     3. The Administration

     The Eurasian Economic Summit
     On the 26-28th April, 2000 the first Eurasian Economic Summit was held on the initiative of Kazakhstan and WEF in Alma-Ata.
     More than 500 representatives from 42 countries and as well as the Presidents of the Republics of Kazakhstan, Georgia, Kyrgyz ,the Prime Ministers of the Republics of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Byelorussia and Turkey ,the leader of the State Committee on the Economy and Trade of China took part in the summit.
     The international organizations were represented by the leaders of UNECE, UNESCAP, OSCE and as well as by the deputy leaders of IMF, WB, WTO, OIC and ECO in the summit.
     In the arrangement the state of investment environment and the opportunities of the regional countries, the prospects of the development of oil and gas fields and the transportation of the raw materials to the world market, the security and corporation issues in the context of Islam fundamentalism, the geopolitical situation of the regional countries with the neighboring countries and the implementation of the regional projects, the development of the market economy and economic increase ,as well as the development of private sector , the tax and customs reforms and the development of financial sector were discussed.
     In the framework of the summit the presentation of the program of the UNO for the countries of region called SPEC A took place.
     On the 8-9th of April, 2302 the Second Eurasian Economic Summit took place in Alma-Ata. In the arrangement 5 Middle Asia, 3 South Caucasus and as well as the representatives of the neighboring countries of the region and the international organizations took part.
     List of the arrangements which will held in 2004 The WEF intends to hold these arrangement in 2004:
     - January 21-25-The annual meeting of the Forum in Davos
     - April 28-30 -European Economic Summit in Warsaw
     - May 15-17- WEF ift Jordan
     - June 11-13- The African Economic Summit in Mozambique

     The reference about the existing partnership relations between the Government of the Azerbaijan Republic and WEF
     As it is known, the WEF regularly organizes the Annual Meetings as well as Regional Economic Summits and arrangements over the country.
     The organization whose aim consists of improving the existing situation in the world at the present moment is independent and its activity is not directed to earn. The WEF possesses the status of counseling as a non-governmental organization attached to the ECOSOC.
     It is for a long time the relations has been established and developed between the Azerbaijan Republic and WEF. The government personnel of high rank of the Republic, exports on different fields, the representatives of science and private circles took part in a number of arrangements organized by the Forum.
     Because of the 11th September terror acts as a symbol of unanimity on the 31st of January- 4th February, 2002 the Annual Summit of the Forum did not take part in Davos, but in New York in which our delegation headed by the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Haydar Aliyev took part and president made a speech on the global and regional problems and their settlement. During the arrangement the president of the Azerbaijan Republic held a number of bilateral meetings.
     The delegation headed by the Prime minister of the Azerbaijan Republic Mr. A. Rasulzade took part in the First Eurasian Economic Summit held in Astana, Kazakhstan on the 26-28th of April, 2002.
     In the Second Eurasian Economic Summit held in Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan on the 8-9 of April, 2002 the delegation headed by the deputy Prime minister of the Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Y. Eyyubov took part.
     In the mentioned Regional Economic Summits the situation of the investment environment and the opportunities of the regional countries, the prospects of transportation of oil and gas via Middle Asia and the Caucasus, the problems of security .and corporation in the context of Islam fundamentalism, the geopolitical situation of the regional countries with the neighboring countries and the implementation of the regional projects, the development of the market economy and the ensuring of the macroeconomic stability, reforms of tax and customs systems, the development problems of financial sector and information technology were discussed.
