Personal Use Guidelines
- You may view or download the image to your workstation and store it, and you may make one hard copy without further permission, provided
this is done for purposes of private study only.
- You may also display the single personal copy for purposes of an academic lecture or seminar, provided that no further duplication occurs or is allowed to occur.
- You may incorporate the URL for an image, but not the image itself, in your personal hypertext document. The purpose of this restriction
is to preserve the integrity of the image and to prevent manipulated or corrupted variations from entering circulation.
- You may not duplicate the image in any medium for another person or institution.

Works Cited / Rules for Citations
In accordance with standard academic and general practices, you must include the copyright notice and reference as found at
the bottom of each digitized manuscript image and on the title page of the published version in any copy you make, whether
in electronic or other form. please use the following format, replacing the information in brackets. "Courtesy [Full name
of Collection], Oregon State University Special Collections, Box [Box #]"
Example: "Courtesy Ava Helen and Linus Pauling Papers, Oregon State University Special Collections, Box 6.001"
Digital Image Duplication
Download of digitized materials are provided as a service for remote users to expedite research and lessen wear on documents,
and are made solely for the personal use of the individual researcher requesting them. Printed copies of downloaded documents
and any reproduction of the same may not be transferred to another individual or organization, deposited at another institution,
or reduplicated without prior permission of the Valley Library and Oregon State University Special Collections.
Photoduplication
In some cases, Special Collections may refuse to make copies because of the physical condition of the material, the amount
of staff time required to do the work, special restrictions imposed by the donor, copyright law, or right-to-privacy statutes,
or for any other reason. All photocopying is done by the Special Collections staff. Unfortunately, Special Collections does
not accept CopyCards available on the second floor. View Fee Schedule.
The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions
of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives were authorized to furnish
a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or other reproduction is not to
be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses,
a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would
involve violation of copyright law.
