SALANS

Karina Chichkanova graduated from the law department of the Leningrad State University in 1990. Ms. Chichkanova began her career at Salans in 1995. She was appointed the head of the St. Petersburg Real-Estate Practice in 2005. In May 2008, the Legal 500 named Karina Chichkanova “one of the leading professionals in the real estate market, and also one of the most recommended lawyers in Saint Petersburg”.

Karina Chichkanova's specializations include directing projects implemented on both state and private land, and connected with construction “from scratch”, reconstruction of existing properties, lease or acquisition of property rights (including by means of acquiring the rights to the owner company), and co-investment deals. She has headed the legal teams for major industrial projects, projects for the construction of shopping complexes and hypermarkets, as well as projects regarding the development of business centers, hotels, and multi-apartment housing in Saint Petersburg and Russia's northwest region.


DLA PIPER

Jonathan Socolow joins DLA Piper's Moscow office as partner in the Finance & Projects group. Jonathan's practice focuses on the oil, gas, power and infrastructure industries, representing multinational companies and Russian majors in a wide range of transactional and regulatory matters. Outside of the energy industry, Jonathan has represented investors in Russian joint ventures in the cable television, broadband and satellite communications industries.
Prior to joining DLA Piper, Jonathan was senior counsel with an international law firm in Moscow and before that he was an associate and then partner at Wright and Talisman P.C. in their Washington, D.C., and Newport Beach, California, offices.
Jonathan received his A.B. in 1986 and J.D. in 1989 from Columbia University. He is a member of the New York and District of Columbia Bars.

Brian Konradi joins DLA Piper's Moscow office as partner in the Corporate group. Brian specializes in corporate, mergers and acquisitions and business transactional matters. Prior to joining DLA Piper Brian was counsel with an international law firm in Moscow serving a wide range of local and international clients. Before that Brian had US practice experience in oil and gas, electric utility, capital markets and finance matters.
Brian received his B.A. in 1994 from Rhodes College and his J.D. in 2000 from the Georgetown University Law Center. He completed a Russian language immersion program at the Institute of Russian Literature in St. Petersburg in 1992. He is a member of the State Bars of Texas and Tennessee and the American Bar Association.

Alexey Chichkanov joins DLA Piper's St. Petersburg office as Partner in the Finance & Projects group. Alexey is an authority on project finance, private and public partnerships, and regulatory matters. Prior to joining DLA Piper Alexey was Deputy Chairman of the St. Petersburg Property Management Committee and actively participated in the development of legislation on investments as well as various regulatory acts. In his new position Alexey will advise clients on real estate and infrastructure matters.
Alexey graduated from the Law Department of the St. Petersburg State University with honours in 1996 and obtained his Ph.D. in 2003.


Renaissance Group

Simon Moyse has been named Global Communications Director in Renaissance Group’s Moscow office.  
Simon joins Renaissance Group from Finsbury, bringing over ten years experience of strategic and M&A communications for financial services and emerging market clients.  Previously he was a senior communications adviser to Chancellor Gordon Brown at the UK Treasury. He is due to start in September 2008.


Staffwell

David Gilmartin joins market-leading recruitment firm Staffwell as General Manager, responsible for further developing the company’s activities in Russia and CIS.
 
Previously, Mr. Gilmartin held executive positions in Russia with Intermark Group, Liggett-Ducat (Gallaher Group), and Dandy Distribution CIS (Dirol Cadbury Group).
 
Mr. Gilmartin has a degree in International Marketing from Dublin City University, Ireland (1990)
 
Julia Smirnova has been promoted to Commercial Director for Staffwell, responsible for key client development in all major industry areas.  Previously Ms. Smirnova was Senior Director for the company’s Banking and Investment sectors.


LOVELLS CIS

Alexander Rymko has been appointed Consultant in the Banking practice of Lovells CIS. Alexander graduated from the Moscow State University of International Relations. Before joining Lovells CIS he had experience in-house with leading international banks including four years as head of legal in one of the world’s largest banks and an international law firm. Alexander joined Lovells CIS in 2006 as a senior associate and Head of Banking practice.

Taras OksuykTaras Oksyuk has been appointed Consultant in the Real Estate practice of Lovells CIS. Taras graduated
from the law faculty of Moscow State University in 2002 with a first class honors diploma in law. Taras
holds a Ph.D. from Moscow State University and teaches civil law in the civil law department of the
same University. Taras joined Lovells CIS in 2006 as a senior associate; he heads the Real Estate practice of  Lovells CIS.


DLA PIPER

DLA Piper is pleased to announce that Vyacheslav Khorovskiy joins its Moscow office as a partner in the Banking and Finance group and will lead its Banking practice. Vyacheslav specializes in syndications, trade, property finance and debt capital markets and will advise banks and financial institutions as well as major local and international companies.

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Vyacheslav was a Consultant in the Banking Department of Allen & Overy Legal Services and before that, he headed the Russian banking practice at Lovells CIS and was a senior lawyer at Mosnarbank, a Russian subsidiary bank of Moscow Narodny Bank Limited (UK).

Vyacheslav Khorovskiy graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (University) (MGIMO), Faculty of International Law in 1995, and received his LLM from University College London (UCL), University of London in 2003.


SALANS EXPANDS RUSSIAN IP/IT/TELECOMMUNICATIONS PRACTICE

Salans has reinforced its position as having one of the leading IP teams in Russia with the addition of one partner and four lawyers from Beiten Burkhardt's St. Petersburg office.
Victor Naumov joins Salans as partner and head of its Russian IP/IT/ Telecommunications Practice. He will be based in Salans' St. Petersburg office. Chambers Europe 2007 named Victor Naumov “A leading IP expert in Russia”. In February 2008 Kommersant newspaper ranked Victor among 'the leading figures in St. Petersburg in his field."
Victor Naumov obtained a degree in mechanical engineering from the St. Petersburg State Marine Technical University in 1994, a degree in computer science from St. Petersburg State University in 1996 and law degree from St. Petersburg State University in 1997. He defended his Ph.D. dissertation "Regulation of Distribution of Information on the Internet" in 2003. Mr. Naumov is an associated professor at St. Petersburg State University, and lectures in the Economics and Law Faculties.
Mr. Naumov has engaged in private practice in the area of information technology, computer law, intellectual property and the Internet since 1997.
Mr. Naumov is a member of the Expert Council on Legal Regulation and Protection of Intellectual Property of the Committee for Economic Policy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism of the State Duma of the Russian Federation. In September 2007, Victor Naumov was elected Co-Chairman of IT Committee of the American Chamber of Trade and Commerce in St. Petersburg. Since 1999, he has consulted on the development of draft legislation on IP, IT, information resources, the Internet, and telemedical services, for the Russian Federation and for subjects of the Russian Federation, and has also assisted in developing model laws for CIS jurisdictions in these areas. Mr. Naumov has authored more than 100 articles on law and computer science. In 2007, Victor received a state medal for contributing to the computerization of society in Russia.


DENIS VOEVODIN APPOINTED PARTNER AT SALANS

Denis Voevodin has been appointed as a partner of Salans, based in its Moscow office.
Mr. Voevodin is a specialist in trademark/intellectual property matters, and heads Salans' Russian Trademark/IP Practice Group. In this capacity, he assists clients on the full range of trademark matters and related legal issues related to IP in the Russian Federation and CIS jurisdictions. He is active in numerous trademark and copyright litigation matters as well as advising on anticounterfeiting programs and activities. He also advises on IP portfolio issues (copyright, trademark and patent rights) and related due diligence matters in connection with mergers and acquisitions.
Denis Voevodin joined Salans in 2001 as counsel. Before joining Salans, Mr. Voevodin worked for more than ten years for one of the largest local IP firms. He attended the Moscow State University for Foreign Relations (MGIMO). Mr. Voevodin passed his Patent Bar exam in 1995 and is qualified as a Patent Attorney.
Mr. Voevodin is one of the most active trademark practitioners in Russia, and speaks frequently at international conferences.

Evgeny Timofeev appointed Co-Head of Salans Global Tax Practice

Moscow partner and co-head of Russian Tax Practice Evgeny Timofeev and Paris partner Sandra Hazan take over the reins of Salans Global Tax Practice Group.
Evgeny Timofeev is a member of the Board of the Russian Tax Law Association and a member of the Expert Council on Tax Legislation of the State Duma Budget Committee in Russia. In addition to advising foreign and local companies and banks, including in the context of international tax treaty analysis, Timofeev has significant experience in tax litigation.

Salans' global tax group has over 40 lawyers worldwide. With 37% growth in revenues for the 2007 financial year, Salans now has 176 partners worldwide as part of over 750 lawyers globally operating from 18 offices across 17 jurisdictions.

POULET-MATHIS JOINS SALANS GLOBAL REAL ESTATE PRACTICE XAVIER POULET-MATHIS, former head of Bouyguesstroi legal affairs, has joined Salans top rated Global Real Estate Practice as Of Counsel resident in the Moscow office.

Xavier specializes in legal issues related to construction projects in emerging markets, especially in Russia. He has extensive transactional experience in the negotiation of secured international construction contracts with limited recourse financing.

Prior to joining Salans, Xavier served from 2004 as head of legal affairs at Bouyguesstroi (Russian subsidiary of Bouygues Batiment International). Before that, he worked with Bouygues in France, as legal counsel responsible for construction projects in emerging markets. Prior to joining Bouygues, Xavier worked in the Moscow office of Salans.

Xavier is a graduate of the Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne University, where he obtained a master's degree in international commercial and trade law in 2000 and the Universite Robert Schuman in Strasbourg (LL.B.) in 1995.

Natalia Gulyaeva has been appointed Intellectual Property, Media and Technology (IPMT) Partner. Natalia graduated from Moscow State University in 1998 with first class honors in law. She holds PhD from Moscow State University and LLM from Tuebingen University, Germany. She has also attended the University of Bristol, Britain. Natalia joined Lovells CIS in 2000, since 2004 she has headed the IPMT practice.

Michael Pugh has been appointed Capital Markets Partner. As an undergraduate, Michael studied BA (Hons) European Studies (French and Russian) at Bath University. After working in Ukraine for Poltava Petroleum Company, Michael studied law at Nottingham Law School. Michael trained with Lovells in London and spent almost three years working at Lovells CIS. Michael specialises in debt and equity capital markets and securitisation.

Ivan is a certified public accountant in New Hampshire, USA, and Co-Chairman of the Taxation Committee of the St. Petersburg Chapter of AmCham. VILENA SHEKALOVA graduated from the Law Faculty of Saint-Petersburg State University in 2003. Vilena has experience in resolution of antimonopoly, commercial, customs, ecological and land disputes as well as tax disputes in various regions, including Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Tver, Novgorod and Karelia. Her practice includes handling due diligence projects in various Russian regions, provision of legal support in asset/business deals and bankruptcy of strategic companies.

LEIDA LUKIANOVA graduated from the Law Faculty of the Novgorod State University in 2001 and received a degree in Accounting, Analysis and Audit in 2005. Before starting her career in consulting, she worked as Head of the Legal Department of the Veliky Novgorod City Tax Inspectorate. Leida has about seven years of practical experience in tax litigation in arbitration courts of various levels in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod and courts of common jurisdiction. Her primary focus is on litigation and consulting, with a particular emphasis on Russian tax.
