Learning and the BBC

These pages offer an overview of the aims of BBC Learning and an insight into specific areas of its activities.

BBC Learning plays a central part in meeting the BBC's education and knowledge-building purpose. Our ambition is to help people gain the fundamental knowledge and skills upon which other learning can be built. We support the development of specific skills, often curriculum-related, and also encourage active participation in learning in the widest sense.

We aim to use the best of the BBC - its content, channels of communication, talent and creative skills - to offer resources and activities designed to meet real needs and complement the formal education process. Through today’s interactive media, such as broadband internet and mobile devices, we can offer people powerful learning experiences in their own time and at their own pace. We also reach out into real communities, working closely with partners already established there.

Our priorities are to:

  • support the learning needs of school-age children
  • inspire teenagers through their interests outside formal learning
  • motivate adults to improve their skills
  • help people to develop the media literacy skills needed in the modern digital world
  • offer opportunities for learning through active participation

We welcome your views on our activities and how we could develop them further.
