International League
The International League has its roots in 1885's New York State League,
which served as a starting point for 1886's International Association. The
league was known by several different names in its early days -- Eastern
Association (1891), Eastern League (1892-1911), and New International League
(1918-1919) -- and served as a Class AAA league for most of its history. The
final event that shaped the league's history was the 1998 split of the
American Association teams into the Pacific Coast League and the
International League to form two Class AAA minor leagues.
