Jack Russell Memorial Stadium was one of
the last old-time Florida stadiums still used for spring
training, with the Philadelphia Phillies' last training there
before the 2003 season. Built in 1955, it's ringed by palm trees and exudes
a relaxed attitude. The Phillies are
moving into a new training facility at Hwy. 19 and Drew Street
for the 2004 season, which will also serve as the home of the
Clearwater Phillies (Class A; Florida State League). The
future of Jack Russell Stadium, which is owned by the city of
Clearwater, has not been determined.
