[edit] Alignment

For the last change, yes/no, make sense, needs work? Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 08:58, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

I really like the heading-centered alignment. Eleven even (talk) 20:20, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
The question wasn't one of aesthetics, but of usability (I agree that the centered content is more aesthetically pleasing).
I believe the left-aligned version is clearer, and more easily understood as giving just examples of the content found in the subpages; Also, with regards to this page going against our manual-of-style recommendations of not linking headers. Anyone else? -- Quiddity (talk) 22:50, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A general project

I'd like to develop an alternative introduction to Wikipedia that is not focused on how to edit, but rather how to get acquainted with Wikipedia. How to use the History tab to see what's happened to an article, why getting an account and using a watchlist might be helpful even if you don't plan on editing anytime soon, how talk pages and archives work. Maybe also how the administrative end of things works: how people get admin or bureaucrat rights, what those rights are, how deletion and merge decisions are made, how consensus works in general. If anybody's interested in collaborating on this, please contact me. -Pete (talk) 21:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] A specific suggestion

Wikipedia:Introduction 3 should mention joining a WikiProject in a particular area of interest in the right-hand column. (The page isn't editable.) -Pete (talk) 21:18, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes it is. Mallerd (talk) 07:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] "Other Media"

The link "Other Media" currently links to Wikipedia:Media, a disambiguation page. Looking at the history, it appears the originally intended link target is now at Wikipedia:Creation_and_usage_of_media_files. Should this link be fixed? -- 128.104.112.85 (talk) 21:23, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Done. Thanks for not only pointing out the problem, but also researching the solution! Ideal. -- Quiddity (talk) 21:29, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Interwiki use of pictures

Can I use a picture from the Dutch Wiki in de English Wiki ? Or dom I have to upload it again ? thanks in advance. Bornestera (talk) 17:04, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

I believe you have to upload it again, but consider uploading it to WP:COMMONS. Then it can be used on all wikimedia projects, including all of the wikipedias. JackSchmidt (talk) 17:23, 7 June 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll try it Bornestera (talk) 18:36, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Editing software

Some links to third-party software that can be used to edit articles would fit well in this article. SharkD (talk) 00:53, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

There is a link to Wikipedia:Tools here already. I think anyone who is technical enough to want a separate program to edit with, will be able to find that. -- Quiddity (talk) 02:05, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Advice for parents

I'm thinking of adding this to the 'places to ask questions' bit - any thoughts? Privatemusings (talk) 05:25, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

I think it's a useful page for a significant demographic of wikipedia users, so I'm going to add it somewhere suitable.. cheers, Privatemusings (talk) 02:39, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Carajo

you have "Carajo" as being the name of a heavy metal band, and that is all. Actually "Carajo" in any Spanish speaking country means "Dam". As when you are upset and you say "God Dam" well in the Spanish expression would be "Carajo". When someone gets you upset, vulgarly, you'll say "Go to Hell" in Spanish we don't send them to hell we send them to "El Carajo" we just add "EL" before to put emphasys on the word which only meands "The". you know in Spanish we have genders. Carajo is a male word so we put "EL". I think you guys should get your research team and tell them to find out the real word of "Carajo" To most Spanish country is offensive or rude to use it. I am just trying to help you out. thanks, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Salsero 007 (talkcontribs) 13:01, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually "carajo" has several menanings in spanish, as can be seen in the Spanish Wikictionary (see es:Carajo and es:Carajo (desambiguación)), among them:
  1. the place on top of the mainmast where a lookout was placed in a sailing ship (Crow's nest).
  2. related to the previous one, a punishment place. Hence the spanish expression mandar (a alguien) al carajo, (roughly) translated as to send (somebody) to the crow's nest with the intention to mean "leave me alone".
  3. vulgar synonim of "penis", in some spanish-speaking regions; hence can be used/understood as an insult.
  4. lack of someting, as in the expression me importa un carajo which can be translated as I don't give a damn.
It can be perceived as offensive/rude according the situation, context, phrase, intent, pronunciation and even the region where the word is used. I'm not a linguist, but hopefully helped to understand better this (quite frequently used) spanish languaje word. Regards, DPdH (talk) 03:32, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

This isn't a good place to ask for help. Try asking at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). They should be able to assist you, or direct you to the most appropriate place. -- Quiddity (talk) 17:48, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
The most appropriate place to ask for assistance about Wikipedia is the Help Desk anyone their will probably be willing to help. Dark Mage 17:52, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Duplication

Need to combine creating pages and life cycle of an article. Also, the lists on this page are too long, need more sub-categories. Funandtrvl (talk) 07:19, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
