Travelling to Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is relatively easy. First let's get acclimated to the general area and then we will narrow down to the two main road access points the vast majority of school groups use to visit the Monument.

Big Picture

Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument is located in southwest Washington State, in the United States. The two closest international airports are Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon (south of the Mounument) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport near Seattle, Washington (north of the Mounument). The principal road route to the two two main road access points to the Monument is via Interstate-5. Coincidentally, I-5 is the main north-south highway between Seattle and Portland.

Monument Facilities West Of Mount St. Helens

Mounument facilities west of Mount St. Helens may be accessed via Interstate-5 to State Route 504. Traveling east on SR 504 you will arrive at these Mount St. Helens sites in the following order:

Mounument Facilities South Of Mount St. Helens

Monument facilities south of Mount St. Helens may be accessed via Interstate-5 to State Route 503. Traveling east on SR 503 the road will become Forest Road 90 a few miles past the town of Cougar. From Cougar, along Forest Road 90, you will come to Forest Road 83 in approximately 8 miles. Along Forest Road 83 you can access the following sites:
