NZDF

Export Facilitation

The NZDF is conscious of the benefits to its budget and to the nation of New Zealand through increasing the value of exports of defence related products. Thus, within reasonable limits, it will support New Zealand exporters in their export efforts.

The Defence Attaches discussed elsewhere are an obvious and important feature of this programme.

Co-operation with Australia: Under CER, the NZ and Australian industry bases are to be treated as one, given equal opportunity to tender for Defence needs, and given no particular favours for nationalistic reasons. That said, there are differences between the industry policies of the Australian and New Zealand Governments which can create misunderstandings. The NZDF, NZ Trade and Enterprise and other organisations involved in trade development can provide advice in specific cases. The NZDF can provide introductions, points of contact etc in the Australian Defence Organisation.

Other Defence Forces: Within the extent of its knowledge, the NZDF will assist companies to make contacts in overseas markets. In most cases this will be done through the Defence Attaches, but there may be occasions when the NZDF has access to other sources of information.

The NZDF frequently hosts visitors from overseas, usually from other Defence Forces, but occasionally from other governments who have an interest in how the NZ defence industry base works, or in the capacity and capability of NZ industry. The NZDF frequently arranges for such visitors to call on NZ companies. These visits and product demonstrations are always well received by the visitors, and serve to enhance the world wide reputation of NZ industry.

The NZDF also travels widely, and occasions can arise when people with whom NZDF personnel or units come in contact are interested in NZ equipment. The NZDF takes this seriously and always seeks to present NZ industry in a good light. While it is not the role of the NZDF to market NZ companies or NZ products, it may be possible for an NZDF unit to demonstrate some items of equipment while on deployment. Companies seeking to work with the NZDF in this way should initially make contact with the Deputy Director Logistic Support to discuss the possibilities.
