Solomon Islands

A series of earthquakes struck the Western Provinces of the Solomon Islands (about 10kms deep near the town of Gizo and 345 kms west of Honiara) on 2 April 2007.

The images below show the NZDF's response to the Solomon Islands tsunami.  In the month since the tsunami the NZD sent three C-130 Hercules aid flights to deliver supplies - including tarpaulins, water bottles and field kitchen units.  - to the stricken Islands.

Other images in this section reflect New Zealand's contribution to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI). New Zealand troops have worked in the Solomons with other nations, including Australia, Fiji, Tonga and Papua New Guinea, since July 2003.
