  • St George's Day - the Mayor supports events to celebrate St George’s Day in Trafalgar Square and at Shakespeare’s Globe, the Cenotaph and Covent Garden
  • Big Dance - a week long celebration of dance with a huge variety of dance activities and initiatives - first held in 2006 and coming back again in July 2008
  • Open Rehearsal - sample London’s finest music, theatre, dance and opera, free of charge, through access to rehearsals and behind the scenes activity
  • London Freewheel - Organised by the Mayor of London, the first London Freewheel will took place on Sunday 23 September 2007
  • Abolition of slavery bicentenary year 2007 - a number of events and activities were held to commemorate the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery
  • Tour of Britain - the opening prologue time trial of the 2007 Tour of Britain took place at Crystal Palace on 9 September
  • Tour de France 2007 - the Tour de France, started in London in 2007, for the first time in the 100 year history of the race
  • Simcha on the Square - an event at Trafalgar Square to mark the 350th anniversary of Oliver Cromwell's invitation to Jews to return to Britain
  • Carnaval Del Pueblo - Europe's largest celebration of Latin American culture, held in Burgess Park in August
  • City Showcase - gives emerging musicians and fashion hopefuls a platform to perform and show their designs at a variety of venues across the capital
  • Festival of Youth Arts - the Mayor supports this week-long festival showcasing the creative work of young people
  • London Athletics Grand Prix - biggest meeting in the UK athletics calendar, the Norwich Union London Grand Prix
  • London Youth Games - children from across London competed in over 25 different sports

  • Chinese New Year - London's celebration of Chinese New Year
  • St Patrick's Day - London's annual parade and festival involving community groups, marching bands, schools, sports groups and others
  • Vaisakhi - the holiest day of the calendar for over 20 million Sikhs worldwide
  • Africa Day - A free festival of African arts, heritage, culture, music, crafts, tourism, dance, and cuisine.
  • Rise festival - Rise (previously respect) is London's top free music and dance event, celebrating the capital's diversity and promoting anti-racism in a day-long festival
  • Trafalgar Square Festival: three weeks of spectacular outdoor performances and events in August
  • London Mela - a free festival offering a colourful celebration of Asian culture and creativity
  • Capital Age Festival - organised by the London Older People’s Strategies Group, this is a free festival of arts and culture for older people, their families and friends
  • Thames Festival - annual major free public event that brings Londoners together in celebration of our city's greatest natural asset, the Thames
  • Black History Month - a month-long celebration of the contribution made by black men and women to our heritage, held every October
  • Diwali on the Square - Diwali Festival has religious significance for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains and is celebrated by many communities throughout the capital
  • Eid on the Square - a celebration in Trafalgar Square of Eid ul-fitr which marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting observed by millions of Muslims across the world, including London
  • Hanukkah (or Chanukah) - Jewish festival of lights, celebrated by Jewish communities over the world and marked by the lighting of the Menorah (candelabrum) as a symbol of religious freedom - including an annual ceremony at City Hall
  • Russian Winter Festival - a celebration of Russia’s ‘Old New Year’, aiming to underpin relations between Britain and Russia, and increase people's awareness of this vast and diverse country, its history and culture
