Culture - new initiatives

  • Abolition of slavery bicentenary year 2007 - This year marks the Bicentenary of the abolition of slavery and a number of events and activities are being held to commemorate it.
  • 2012 Olympics - London is to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games
  • Trafalgar Square - an exciting programme of events and performances takes place in the square, including the Trafalgar Square Festival
  • The Young London website provides information about life in London for children and young people, and those helping them have a say
  • Tour de France 2007 - the start of the world's greatest cycle race was in London during the weekend of 6-8 July 2007
  • Visit London - the official tourist organisation for London, receives public funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport via the Mayor of London and the London Development Agency
  • Jewish London Guide - a guide to Jewish cultural events in London
  • Creative Industries - the Mayor is determined to ensure that London remains an economically and culturally vibrate city in which creative talent can thrive and prosper and compete internationally. Part of this initiative is the annual City Showcase festival for emerging talent from the worlds of music and fashion
  • Design for London - championing good design in London
  • Film London - an agency promoting London as a film-making capital, supported by the Mayor via the London Development Agency
  • Gain - enriching boards through diversity. ‘Governance, Access, Inclusion and Networking’.
