Minnesota Twins
That the fan experience is improved for Minnesota Twins games in recent years is a testament to the team management, a group historically uncommitted to creating a fan-friendly environment in the Metrodome. Season-ticket holders benefit from personalized service from team representatives. The vendor offerings on the mall in front of the stadium are more varied and appeal even more to families. The concessions have been dramatically upgraded as well. So what's wrong with the Metrodome experience? The Metrodome. It works well as a football stadium, but it's awkwardly configured as a baseball stadium. As it stands, the Twins have improved things at the Dome, but they can only do so much. In other words, it's as good as it gets.
If you go, choose your seating carefully. Out of the Dome's 45,000 or so seats, only 20,000 or so are worth sitting in. Sections 118-132 (behind home plate) are obviously the best seats in the house, and at $21 they're a bargain. Avoid sections 113-117 and 133-139; these are good football seats but their orientation are guaranteed to give you a stiff neck by the third inning. The lower-deck outfield bleachers are $17 -- expensive and, since they're reserved, not worth the money because you can't sit where you want. Generally speaking, admission prices at the Dome are a little lower than you can find in other major-league ballparks, but a Twins game isn't the bargain it once was. The best seats in the house? Sections 209-212. The Twins opened up these sections overlooking right field in front of the large curtain with the retired numbers. They sit above the football press box and are virtually uninhabited, so you're relatively close to the action with a great view. Plus, you can buy these tickets for $6 -- less than the price of a movie.
Concessions Worth searching out are the grilles serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers, and grilled-chicken sandwiches for $5.25 apiece. The burgers are excellent: nice and juicy without being sloppy. If mainstream ballpark fare doesn't do it for you, there are a number of new specialty-food stands scattered throughout the concourses. Several Famous Dave's booths can be found on both levels to quench your appetite for ribs. (There's also a Famous Dave's booth on the mall in front of the stadium; outside, the ribs are cooked on a real fire.) Most of the beer taps feature some Miller or Budweiser variant, although many booths feature Summit Pale Ale, a Summit seasonal brew, Leinie Red or Glueck's. The Beers of the World stands feature Heineken, Labatt Blue, and more.
