Frequently Asked Questions - We're Here to Help

Can I get BBC Essex on my DAB radio?

There is DAB coverage across most of the UK but there are areas where DAB is not available. DAB radios will get BBC Essex in most areas of the county but not all.  If you are thinking of getting a DAB radio it's always worth telling the retailer what you want to listen to; a good retailer should be able to advise on the right type to buy.  The Government's analogue switch off only covers TV so radio is not affected.

How do I contact the news team at BBC Essex?

You can call the NEWS HOTLINE and leave details about your story on 01245 616047. You can e-mail via the news index.  Click on "contact our presenters" and choose News Desk from the drop down menu.

How can I get my event publicised?

You can e-mail details of your event to Essex Events please allow at least two weeks notice and I'm afraid we cannot guarantee to publicise everything.  We prioritise events which we think will appeal to our listeners and we try not to publicise club events which happen every week.

How can I get work experience at BBC Essex?

Like most parts of the BBC, BBC Essex offers a number of work placements throughout the year.  You can apply for these via the BBC's work experience website.  Places are limited.  If you need further information about working for the BBC then there's lots of useful info and job adverts at the BBC's jobs website.

Can I visit BBC Essex?

We are happy to offer tours when we have staff available to guide people around our Chelmsford HQ.  Please contact the BBC Essex Helpline on 01245 348348 for more information and to book a tour.  Tours are limited to approx 20 people and last up to an hour.

I'm in a band, how do we get our record played?

There is a section of the website under Entertainment which is dedicated to unsigned bands, called Swinging or Minging.

BBC Essex has signed up two 17-year-old lads, Mike Bromfield and Ollie Winiberg, to present a weekly programme showcasing local unsigned bands.

The show is called "BBC Essex Introducing …" and is on-air each Friday from 6pm.  We will be giving local music makers a platform and it could be a route into getting played on our sister station BBC Radio 1.

How can I hear a BBC Essex programme again?

There is a Listen Again service available via the front page of this website.  Click on Listen Again and choose which programme you want.  Daily shows are overwritten every 24 hours and weekly shows every seven days.  You can also listen live via the website by choosing the Listen Live option and Look East and BBC London regional television content is also available.  Some BBC Essex interviews can also be heard again ie The Nature Trail is available to listen to via the nature pages.

How do I comment on BBC programmes?
