TOWN INTRO
Chances are you've heard a thing or two about the music scene in Austin, Texas. Maybe you've noticed the dozens of clubs, thousands of bands, or the massive South By Southwest music festival. Maybe you’ve watched PBS' "Austin City Limits," or listened to a Spoon or a Stevie Ray Vaughan record. With its self-proclaimed "Live Music Capitol of the World" title, Austin has earned its stripes as one of the finest cities for music buffs. It’s apparent from the first moment you touch down at Austin Bergstrom International Airport, where local artists are piped over the PA system. Any sound is here for the listening: indie rock, hip-hop, folk, techno, and more. In fact, there’s so much it can all be a little overwhelming for newcomers. We Are Scientists talk music, chocolate chip bagels
Before their performance at the Orpheum Theatre last Thursday, I got a chance to talk with Keith Murray, lead singer and guitarist of the duo, We Are Scientists, who are on tour with The Whigs and Kings of Leon. At a Finagle A Bagel around the corner of the Theater, Murray talked about a potential new addition to the band, explained the difficulties of playing a Halloween gig dressed as a ghost and shed some light on the “science” of the chocolate chip bagel just in time to catch The Whigs –– his new favorite band –– open the show.
