Born in Oklahoma and raised in the small town of Weleetka, Oklahoma. Married his high school sweetheart and his been married for 30 years with two wonderful children.

After high school Dan worked in radio in Duncan then in Lawton.  He holds both a Bachelors of Science degree in meteorology and Bachelors of Arts degree in communication.

He has been a meteorologist in Oklahoma for over 28 years.

Dan has been a member of the National Weather Association since 1984 and holds their Broadcast Seal of Approval. In 2000 Dan served as the Broadcast Program Chairman for The National Weather Association’s 25th Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.  Dan is also a member of the American Meteorological Society and holds their broadcast seal, and is a member of the Northeast Oklahoma Chapter of the American Meteorological Society.

Prior to coming to KJRH-TV, Dan worked for 17 years at KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City. Dan was on the air during the devastating tornadoes of May 3, 1999 that produced more than 65 tornado touchdowns. Governor Frank Keating recognized Dan and the KFOR weather team for their excellent severe weather coverage.

Dan earned an Emmy in 2005 from the Best Evening Newscast.
Dan earned his second Emmy in 2006 for Best Evening Newscast.

Dan, along with KJRH-TV News Team, was awarded the 2006 Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists Award (SPJ) – Best Newscast in the State.

Dan was awarded the 2007 Oklahoma Professional Chapter of the Society of
Professional Journalists Award as the Best Weathercaster in Oklahoma.

In 2005, 2006, 2007 Dan was named the Most Accurage Foecaster in all of 
Green Country by WeatheRate.

Dan’s hobbies include running. Threlkeld has completed numerous marathons, several 50-mile races, and two seperate 100-mile runs.
He completed an Ironman Triathlon, which consists of a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, and 26.2-mile run in 14 hours.

He was named MC of the Year at the Oklahoma Opry four times and placed in the Oklahoma Opry’s Hall of Fame.

Dan writes a weekly newspaper column called ASK DAN, which is currently carried in 10 publications and on kjrh.com.
