Interoperability can occur on many different levels, from basic TCP/IP networking to Web Services, identity management, systems management, and storage, among others. Sun provides interoperability across a wide range of technologies, from the desktop to the data center, to developer products, and Sun is committed to increasing interoperability.

In addition, Sun has moved from solely a RISC-based focus on the SPARC platform and has partnered with AMD and Intel. The Solaris OS is now the only version of UNIX that runs on SPARC, AMD, and Intel platforms. Customers can run the Solaris OS and Microsoft Windows on the same platform, which makes full interoperability even more desirable.
