We got a freebie. When we interviewed Susie last time (during the third season of Curb), she treated us to a bit of her character's famous, expletive-laden insults. Since then she's earned as much as $2500 per abusive phone call for various charities. Yes, people will pay money to have Susie curse them, or their friends, out over the phone.
Essman grew up in the Bronx and Mt. Vernon, New York and still lives in Manhattan, now with a boyfriend and his four teenagers. (Another network has expressed interest in a series about her new step mom status.) She's in eight of this season's ten episodes, including an achingly funny surprise turn in "The Ski Lift." Susie spoke with us the morning after the second, marathon-length game of the World Series.

I'm so tired because I stayed up to watch that goddamn baseball game. I'm a Yankees fan, but I like the White Sox. I think they will win it in four games.
HBO
Did you see Barbara Bush behind home plate?
Susie
Oh, she's scary.
HBO
She was with her son Neil.
Susie
Yeah, the Fredo of the family.
HBO
I like to imagine what they're talking about. Are they really talking about the game?
Susie
They're talking about what's going to happen when the other son gets into big trouble with all these indictments.
HBO
You'll see them laughing and...
Susie
They're thinking, "Ha, ha, ha! We stole the election; we pulled the wool over the country's eyes!"
HBO
How do you think the current season of Curb compares with the previous seasons?
Susie
People have been commenting a lot on the fifth season. They seem to think that it's different. I don't think it's any different.
HBO
Some fans say that the show is focusing more on the main characters, rather than a season-long story arc. Last season there was the "Producers" story line and the restaurant storyline in season three.
Susie
And in season two there were the TV show pitches with Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. But, no I think this season is more of the same hilarity.
HBO
This time there's the adoption theory...
Susie
And the Richard Lewis kidney. Those are the two themes. I think that there's a lot of stuff where Cheryl and I are ganging up on Larry and Jeff, and I fully enjoy that. Cheryl and I had a lot of scenes together this season, more so than in previous seasons. And I also notice this time that Cheryl has had it with Larry.
HBO
Viewers have theorized about that for a while, thinking there might be a divorce or separation.
Susie
I don't think so. But people do ask me, why does she stay with him? What is she doing with him?
