Entrance Scholarships

 

Students are considered for entrance scholarships as part of the application process.

Badun-Gillese Entrance Scholarship: Awarded to a student entering first year law who shows promise and who demonstrates financial need. Value: $1,400

Carswell Entrance Scholarship: Value: $700; Effective: 2008-2009 academic year

Blake, Cassels & Graydon Entrance Scholarships (2): Awarded to two students entering first year, based on academic excellence in pre-law studies. Provided by the Toronto law firm, Blake, Cassels & Graydon, which is committed to the importance of university legal education. Value: $1,250 each

Kevin J. Comeau Continuing Scholarship: Awarded to a student entering the first year of the Law program based on academic achievement. This scholarship will continue in Year 2 and Year 3 provided that the recipient maintains a full course load and achieves an average in the top 25% of his class. This scholarship was established by a generous gift from Kevin Comeau ('82) through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $2,500, continuing for up to 3 years; Effective: 2007-2008 academic year

Dean of Law Entrance Scholarships: Awarded to students entering first year, based on academic excellence in pre-law studies. Up to $15,000. The number of scholarships will vary annually.

Allan Findlay Memorial Entrance Scholarship: Awarded every third year to a student entering first year, based on undergraduate academic achievement and participation in extra-curricular affairs. Established by the former partners of Allan Findlay Q.C., BA, BCL. Value: $1,000

Harold G. Fox Entrance Scholarships (2): Awarded to two students entering first year, based solely upon academic excellence in pre-law studies. Value: $600 each

Gowling Lafleur Henderson Entrance Scholarship: Awarded annually to a student entering first year, based on academic excellence in pre-law studies. Value: $900; Effective: 2008-09 academic year

MacKewn, Winder, Kirwin Entrance Scholarship in Law: Awarded annually to a student entering first year law, based on academic ability and a commitment to community or public service. Established by Mr. C. Fred MacKewn. Value: $800

Patricia McVeigh Memorial Entrance Scholarship: Awarded annually on the basis of financial need and pre-law academic excellence to a student entering first year. This award was established by students, alumni, colleagues, family and friends to honor Patricia McVeigh's devotion to law students, the Faculty of Law, and the Law Library. It commemorates the affection and respect she inspired in law students and her colleagues. Value: Up to $900; Effective: 2009-2010 academic year

Middlesex Law Association Entrance Scholarships (2): Awarded to two students entering first year, based solely on academic excellence in pre-law studies. Value: $700 each

Miller Thomson LLP National Entrance Scholarship: Awarded to a full-time student entering first year Law based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average), financial need, involvement in community, and extracurricular activities. Candidates must complete an admission bursary application that can be accessed online through the Office of the Registrar website and must be submitted by May 31. The recipient will be selected by the Dean of the Faculty of Law during the admission process. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Miller Thomson LLP. Value: $2,500; May 2003-04 to April 2008-2009

Morell Kelly P.C. Entrance Scholarship: Awarded to a student entering first year in the Faculty of Law based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average) and financial need. Preference will be given to students with a connection to the Kitchener-Waterloo Cambridge region. Candidates must complete an admission bursary application, which is available online through the Registrarial Services Web site after January 1, and submit it by April 1. Registrarial Servcies will determine financial need and the Faculty of Law will select the recipient. This scholarship is made possible by a gift from Mr. Kelly (LL.B. '93). Value: 1 at $2,312; Effective 2006-2007 to 2011-2012

Newton Rowell Entrance Scholarships (2): Two entrance scholarships established by the Honorable Henry N.R. Jackman, former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, in memory of his grandfather, Newton Wesley Rowell, a public servant, lawyer and judge. The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and demonstrated interest and commitment to public service. Value: $1,800 each

Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt - Rand Entrance Scholarship: Awarded annually to a student entering the first year of Law based on academic achievement (minimum 80% average). The recipient will be chosen by the Scholarship and Awards Committee within the Faculty of Law. This scholarship was established by a generous donation from Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP through Foundation Western. Value: 1 at $7,000.

Myer and Sarah Solomon Entrance Scholarship: Awarded to two students entering first year law who demonstrate great academic promise and financial need. Established by the family of Myer and Sarah Solomon. Value: $2,000 each

University of Western Ontario Law Association Entrance Scholarships (2): Awarded annually to two students entering first year, based on academic excellence in pre-law studies. $1,000 each

Waterloo Law Association Entrance Scholarship: Awarded to a student entering first year in the Faculty of Law based on academic achievement (A average) and financial need. Preference will be given to a student with a connection to the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge region. Canadiates must complete an admission bursary application which is available online through the Office of the Registrar's website. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from the Waterloo Law Associaton. Value: $2,150; Effective: 2008-2009 to 2010-2011 academic years inclusive

ZSA Legal Recruitment Entrance Scholarship: Awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student entering first year in the Faculty of Law based on academic achievement. The recipient will be selected by the Scholarship and Awards Committee in the Faculty of Law. This scholarship was made possible by a gift from ZSA Legal Recruitment Limited. Value: $4,000; Effective: 2008-2009 to 2012-2013 academic years inclusive
