E1M3: SOLITARY

E1M3a

In front of you is a door with a keyboard that's got a glowing red light. Hit USE on the keyboard to open the door, and go straight to the stairs you see in front. Crouch and go into the opening to the left of the stairs to grab the Plasteel Armor. Then go back out, go down the passageway to your left, and in the far corner of the control room is a blue button. Hit this button, and behind you a door will open and two Mishima Guards will come out. Frag them and grab the Attack boost and health. Go back the way you came, and past the door turn left.

Head up the stairs and proceed past the jail cells. To the left is a short set of stairs with a passage underneath... go in this passage and shoot out the generator for the jail cell forcefields. When you come back out, slay the Inmater that appears above you and then pilfer the cells for ammo.

Continuing on, open the door to the lift chamber. Opposite where you enter this room is an upwards passage; grab the health you see and ascend. At the top of the ramp is a hosportal and a green switch. Hitting the switch will show the bars lifting at the top of the elevator shaft. Now go back down, get on the circular elevator, and USE the blue button on pole in the center of the room to go up.

At the top is a welcoming committee of Mishima Guards, and a door. Go through the door. As you continue further into this area you will see Armor and the Sidewinder hidden in various places; you will be able to get them a bit later on.

When you get to the door that is sparking and opening partway, you will need to shoot the pipes coming out of the computer to the left. This will make the door passable. Go through and around the corner, fight the Inmater, and you'll see another busted door. This one can't be opened, though, so you'll have to find another way.

To the left of the CB2 letters is a computer, and a Mishima sign. Next to this sign is a hard-to-see door, that when you open leads to a small room with a barrel in it. Back away, shoot the barrel, and go into the room again. It will have blown a passage into the room beyond, but don't go in yet. Close the door behind you and shoot the crack you see in the wall in order to find a secret area containing a Goldensoul. Once you grab this, go back and head into the room full of pipes that you discovered.

Crouching down, head to the opposite end of the room and go under the pipes. When you can stand up, then go up the ladder and crouch along the top of the pipes. Snag the ACRO boost if you want, then at the end of the pipes is an opening where you can go up a bit higher. Get the C4 vizatergo and the health (crouching to avoid the fan blades), and then jump over the pipe that blocks you from getting the last health box. Just beyond this box is a opening that will blow you down into the next room where you have to shoot a couple Mishima Guards.

Grab the save gem (and this would be a good place to save, by the way), get on the lift, and prepare for a pretty tough battle. When you hit the button, the lift will descend and you will be face to face with a room full of Inmaters, guards, and surgeons. The surgeons won't attack you, but the rest will, and there is really no trick except to stay on the lift and hide behind the lip of the doorway, shooting whenever something comes into view.

Once you've done all the dangerous opponents in, you are free to explore this surgery area. In a room across from the elevator is a hostportal and the keypad that opens the gate on the level above that allows you to progress. There are other keypads scattered throughout the surgery area that provide access to different cells. Once you are done juicing up, return to the lift and go up to the bridge.

To the left of the bridge is an area with some shotcycler ammo (that can be reached with a strafe jump or a shotcycler jump). From this area you will see a ladder on the wall that leads up to a secret area with a savegem. Snag the gem and return to the bridge, from which you can continue on through the door. Shoot the big green Mishima sign you'll eventually find several times to get the secret Goldensoul behind it. Then USE the keyboard by the window to open the Cell Block 3 door, and go up the lift. Blast any remaining Mishima Guards, and then right next to the CB3 door head to the edge of the walkway in order to get the Sidewinder and Plasteel Armor. Crouch and drop to the pipe below, and walk along the pipe until you can drop into the area where the Sidewinder is. Grab it, then turn the valve wheel there to open the door to the armor. Snag it, rocket jump back up onto the walkway, then go onto CB3.

E1M3b

Going down the stairs will lead you to a room full of Mishima Guards. After blasting them, turn to the area below and to the right of the stairs and shoot the grate next to the computer twice. This leads to a hidden area with some shotcycler ammo and a WraithOrb. Grab these and retreat out of the room, and USE the computer keyboard you see just outside. This will open the door beyond, which has a laser trap. To get past this trap, crouch and move under each laser as it rises up, and stop just before the next one. You can stay between the lasers and not be touched. Once you are through, shoot the sparking conduits up near the cieling and the lasers will shut down and a door will open in the floor. Explore this area to find health, rockets, and a blue button to open the floor grate to let you back out.

Continue one and you'll wind up on a catwalk above a chasm. Shoot the large Mishima sign for a secret ammo dump, and then face the doorway you see in the structure across the chasm. If you are perfectly aimed at this doorway, you can walk forward and drop all the way down into the rift and land on a walkway that leads to a secret. Jump to the red area to the left for Gashands and armor. Climbing the stairs brings you back up. Hit USE on the keypad by where you return to the main level from the secret in order to open the barrier to CB4.

Climb the stairs you see and pull the handle to the left. The door below will open partway before the mechanism explodes, exposing another handle. Pull this one too and the door will open enough for you to get under. Just to the left, past the door and behind a yellow/black railing, is a megashield and some shotcycler ammo. Shotcycler or Sidewinder jump to get it, then proceed to the lift and go up.

Proceed down the row of cells to the room with the purple window, where Superfly is trapped in the torture machine. Once you talk to him, go back out and just to the right of the doorway (facing away from the door) is a conduit going up the wall to the cieling. Shoot this out, and the green Mishima sign farther down the hallway will explode, revealing a red keycard. Grab this and go back to the computer next to the torture machine... hit the USE key, and Superfly will be freed.

Through the next door is Cellblock Death. If you go up the ramp on the right to the meatgrinder and turn around at the top, you'll see a spot with health boxes. Grab these and the rest down by the grinder spout (don't fall in, you'll croak), then exit the level.
