Enemies From The Cabal
Cultists
The lowest designation
of Cabal soldier, Cultists are followers of the Cabal. These early
initiates are recruited, or brainwashed, into service from inside
the Cabalco Corporation. They dress in official corporate attire
so that their presence will not be obtrusive, allowing them to integrate
into any aspect of normal society. They are only trained in a limited
arsenal of weapons, mostly handguns, and in combat situations their
lack of training prevents them from working effectively together.
Their Attack: Cultists
are typically armed with pistols, but are also known to carry MAC-10s and
Flare Guns. Although they will try to dodge your attacks, they attempts
are normally quite pathetic.
Tip: Almost
any weapon will take them out quickly, but I recommend either the 9mm Pistol
or the M16 Assault Rifle, since bullets are so prevalent. Once you start
shooting a cultists, keep shooting. Their pain animation will prevent them
from returning fire. |
Fanatics
These are the special forces of the
Cabal. They're better equipped and more experienced, and they possess
a slightly faster reaction time. They still don't post much of a
threat. Watch them, though. Occasionally, when you think you've
put one down, he'll go berserk and return your attack.
Their Attack: Fanatics
are typically armed with either the MAC-10 or the M16 Assault Rifle, although
they can carry almost any conventional weapon including the Sniper Rifle,
the Tesla Cannon, the Napalm Launcher, and the Howitzer. They will also
dodge your fire much more effectively than the Cultists; which, although
it is equally as pathetic, it does allow them to survive a little longer
to deal out a little more punishment to you.
Tip: Again,
almost any weapon can take them out fairly quickly, and the M16 Assault
Rifle is a very good weapon to use. Use the splash damage of the Napalm
Launcher or Tesla Cannon to take out Fanatics hiding behind cover. |
Zealots
Zealots are an invaluable resource
in the Cabal army, as they are the only members of the Cabal with
mastery of the Dark Arts. These abilities give them extremely effective
offensive abilities. Zealots usually accompany groups of lesser
Cabal members like Fanatics. They provide backup by using their
magic to defend, heal, and generally strengthen the performance
of an attack group.
Their Attack: Their
are two different types of Zealots, one uses an electrical attack, while
the other uses a fire attack (beware the splash damage of these attacks).
They will also use their staff to set off a concusive blast. They will
also teleport if you get too close to them or if you shoot them with any
weapon.
Tip: The
Flare Gun is the most effective way to deal with them, since the
flare will continue to burn them after they teleport. Other high
damage weapons (like the Sniper Rifle or Death Ray) work well
against them, but you might want to save the ammo for those weapons.
|
Prophets
Prophets are
highly intelligent, highly trained Cultists. Their purpose is to
protect the Cabal's most precious commodities. They are heavily
armored and resistant to damage. Prophets represent the best the
Cabal has to offer.
Their Attack: Much
like the Fanatics, they can use almost any conventional weapon, but they
are much more likely to use higher power weapons like the Napalm Cannon
or the Minigun. They will attempt to dodge you fire, but they tend to rely
more on their superior endurance and strength than on fancy acrobatics.
Tip: The same
as with Fanatics. Use the M16 Assault Rifle from cover, or hit them with
the splash damage from the Napalm Launcher or Tesla Cannon when you can't
get a direct line on them. |
Gideon
Under Gideon's hand
the Cabal has become more powerful than ever before, controlling
the economic tides of many major nations and poised on the brink
of world control. And the Cabal has achieved all of this without
overt bloodshed or widespread public knowledge, by simply suppressing
the will of the public through economic and social depression.
Despite these significant achievements, Gideon is unsatisfied. As
long as Caleb lives Gideon feels unworthy of his position. He has dedicated
himself and his pride towards finding and destroying Caleb, and the other
Chosen. To do so, he'll go to almost any end including selling the Cabal
and his soul to the darkest of threats, the most evil of evils. He will
plunge to depths unknown, and achieve power unimaginable, all to put an
end to the Chosen.
His Attack: Gideon
teleports while shooting a number of attacks at you, including a laser
blast and concusive blast.
Tip: The same
as with the Zealots. Use either the Flare Gun, the Sniper Rifle, or the
Death Ray to make short work of him. There's plenty of health and ammo
on the rooftops with him, so he shouldn't provide too much of a problem. |
Undead Gideon
Finally,
you have the opportunity to take out Gideon for the last time. After
he's changed into something "unpleasant," you can end this wild
Gideon Chase once and for all.
His Attack: Undead
Gideon moves rather slowly and uses a variety of dodgable attacks.
Tip: As soon
as you can, unload the Minigun into him. If he survives the assault, switch
over the Tesla Cannon or Death Ray to finish him off. He shouldn't have
any time to actually launch any of his attacks. |
Otherworld Creatures
Bone Leeches
The Bone Leech is
a small, worm-like parasite. A fairly weak creature, its power comes
from its ability to infest and take over other creatures, providing
it with a means of protection, a more effective way to attack, nourishment
as it grows, and most importantly, a breeding ground for more Bone
Leeches.
Its Attack: The
Bone Leech will attach itself to your face and suck out life, unless you
can remove it by hitting the Use key (the SPACE bar is the default) 5 times
quickly or 25 times slowly.
Tip: Learn
to recognize the sound that they make. If you hear it, be extremely careful.
Use the Sniper Rifle to take out them from a distance, or the Assault Rifle
or Life Leech if they are much closer. Use the Remote Bombs to take care
of the ones around corners. If one of them manages to attach themselves
to you, hit the USE key as quickly as you can; and make sure to keep moving,
as you will have to deal with it again if you manage to get it off. |
Thieves
Small, stealthy,
spider-like creature that attack from behind attaching to the base
of the skull, injecting a poison that slowly destroys the victim's
nervous system until death occurs. If the poison does not immediately
cause death it will cause extreme disorientation.
Its Attack: The
Thief will attach itself to back of your skull and inject you with its
poison. You will need to hit the USE key 5 times rapidly (or 25 times slowly)
to get it off of you. Be prepared to get a little dizzy before you manage
to get them off.
Tip: Learn
to recognize the sound that they make.
The Hand
The corpses that
the minions of Tchernobog use to make zombies aren't always in the
best of shape. Sometimes, only a limb is salvageable. Usually, the
Cabal's surgeons can fashion various bits and pieces into a serviceable
undead soldier, but certain leftover parts can be effective all
on their own. If one of these horrors gets hold of you, you've got
to push it off before you can kill it.
Its Attack: The
Hand will grab you by the neck and attempt to choke the life out of you.
You will need to hit the USE key 5 times rapidly (or 25 times slowly) to
get it off of you.
Tip: Learn
to recognize the sound that they make.
Soul Drudge
The Soul Drudge is
a human who has been infested by the Bone Leech, which burrows into
the chest of a normal human, and comes to rest on the infected person's
upper spinal column. From there it takes over the nervous system.
This allows the Bone Leech to control all movement of the victim,
although its control is awkward in the beginning, making the Soul
Drudge a slow and clumsy creature. The Soul Drudge will generally
attack anything that gets too close to it, most likely out of self-defense,
although packs of Soul Drudges have been seen hunting prey, presumably
looking for hosts for more Bone Leeches.
Its Attack: The
Soul Drudge either carries a pipe or an axe, which he will swing at you
if you get too close.
Tip: In the
early levels, try to use the Knife on them whenever you can. This will
allow you to save valuable ammunition for more lethal opponents. In later
rounds use the Life Leech whenever possible, since it takes care of them
rather quickly, and will grant you with a health boost. |
Drudge Lord
The Drudge Lord
is basically a more developed version of the Soul Drudge. The Bone
Leech has grown, and now pierces the arms of the victim with large,
hooked limbs to allow it better control. The victim is either no
longer aware, dead, or too far gone to react at this point. The
Drudge Lord is larger, tougher and deadlier than the Soul Drudge,
and has metal plates that it has bolted to its chest to protect
the bone leech embryos inside. The Drudge Lord will attack almost
any living creature, and do so spitefully. They have an extremely
hostile and ill-tempered disposition, and little or no fear. Drudge
Lords are not often seen working together, presumably due to their
poor temperament, but they often have Soul Drudges acting as their
servants.
Its Attack: The
Drudge Lord is a slow moving creature, but has a devastating fire attack
that is similar to the Napalm Launcher. When you see a Drudge Lord bend
over, get out of the way quickly.
Tip: Defeating
the Drudge Lord can be a real drain on your resources. The quickest and
most ammo effective way to take one out is at close range with two barrels
of your shotguns, although this may not always be the most practical solution.
The Death Ray is the probably the best way to deal with them from a distance,
but the Sniper Rifle can be used in a pinch. And the splash damage from
the Napalm Launcher is a great way to deal with one without having to come
face-to-face with it. Once their pain animations start, you can attack
with impunity. |
Drudge Priest
The Drudge Priest
is a larger creature with fully developed magic abilities. The Drudge
Priest seems to hunt only to infest new victims, and will often
have a host of other Drudge creatures doing its bidding. Attacks
on this creature will often cause the breeding sack that is its
stomach to spill dozens of Bone Leeches down on the unsuspecting
attacker.
Its Attack: The
Drudge Priest floats above the ground and will shoot an explosive fireball
or an electrical beam at you if you stand in one place too long. Also,
Bone Leeches may also drop from the breeding sack, so you don't want to
get too close to them.
Tip: Take
them out from a distance with the Death Ray or the Sniper Rifle, but be
prepared to run for cover when they attack. |
Shikari
The Shikari is
a pure predator. It hunts in packs or alone, and has excellent tracking
and sensing abilities. Very mobile, it jumps and runs. When it reaches
its prey, it rips and devours in a ferocious frenzy. If something
gets too close, it will attack viciously to protect its kill until
the meal is complete.
Its Attack: The
Shikari will jump around almost constantly, making them fairly difficult
to hit. If they are close to you, they will attempt to slash you with their
powerful claws, and will spit a highly corrosive acid at you from a distance.
Tip: If you're
in a wide open space, the most effective way to deal with them is to circle
around them while unloading both barrels of your shotgun into them. From
a distance the Death Ray, Sniper Rifle, or Flare Gun are highly effective. |
Death Shroud
The Death Shroud is
a nasty undocumented surprise that you'll encounter midway through
the game.
Its Attack: The
Death Shroud phases in and out of reality, while shooting off explosive
skulls. These skulls have the ability to follow you if they get close enough
to you.
Tip: The Death
Shroud does make a distinctive sound, so be on the lookout for it. When
you locate one, take out the Sniper Rifle and zoom in on it. When the Death
Shroud starts to raise it arms, squeeze off a couple of shots, quickly
unzoom, and take cover. Repeat until dead. The Death Ray is also very effective,
but you won't be able to see exactly when the Death Shroud becomes vulnerable. |
The Naga
The Naga is the boss featured
at the end of Chapter One.
Its Attack: The
Naga uses one of three different attacks. The first is a powerful
laser beam, the second is throwing a bone, and the third is a
powerful concusive blast that will bring the room down on your
head if you leave his sight.
Tip: Make
sure to leave one of the Shikaris alive until you can get to the
Anger Power-Up up on the ledge. Quickly take out the Shikari,
then circle strafe around the Naga (jumping over his tail) while
unloading your weapon into him. I find the most effective is two
barrels of the shotgun, but others swear by Alt-Fire of the Assault
Rifle. Personally, I save the grenades for the next level though.
|
Behemoth
The boss from
the end of the second Chapter, and a frequent visitor in subsequent
levels.
Its Attack: The
Behemoth will run toward you, pound the ground, and hit you with a massive
concusive blast.
Tip: The first
time you meet up with the Behemoth at the end of Chapter Two, you can snipe
at it from the alcove containing the Life Seed. If you feel the need to
fight him in a fair fight, keep your distance, and hit him with the high
damage weapons like the Sniper Rifle and the Napalm Launcher.
In subsequent appearances, you shouldn't even
bother to fight them since it can take so much damage before dying. The
Behemoth has a very hard time navigating the maps without getting hung
up on things, so it's easy to lead them away from where you need to go,
then quickly run past them. If you feel the need to take one out (or if
you're running a little low on health), pull out the Life Leech and blast
away. |
Undead Ishmael
The first of the
undead Chosen that you will face in Chapter Four.
His Attack: Ishmael
will attack you with The Orb, which has the ability to hone in on you.
Tip: Hit him
with a few flares, and watch him die. |
Undead Ophelia
The second of the undead Chosen that
you will face in Chapter Four.
Her Attack: Ophelia's
choice of weaponry is the Tesla Cannon.
Tip: Run for
cover, and take her out from the outer ring where all the Power-Ups are
located--I recommend taking cover over by the Stealth Power-Up. |
Undead Gabriella
The third and most deadly of the undead
Chosen that you will face.
Her Attack: Gabby
starts off with the incredibly powerful Minigun, and will switch over to
Napalm Launcher when the Minigun runs out of ammo.
Tip: If you're
next to the Stealth Power-Up, and Gabby hasn't seen you yet; grab the Stealth,
walk up next to her, and unload the Minigun into her. Otherwise, you can
attempt to get her with the splash damage of the Napalm Cannon without
exposing yourself to her deadly Minigun. I recommend that you save the
Anger and Willpower until after you defeat Gabby. Kill her, grab the Anger,
then the Willpower, then jump down the hole so you can face down the Ancient
One with a little extra edge. |
The Ancient One
Da boss of bosses.
It's Attack: The
Ancient One tends to use an explosive laser blast, which will make short
order of you if you stay in one place too long, or if you don't have a
Willpower Power-Up.
Tip: Hopefully,
you've started the level with both the Anger and Willpower Power-Ups from
the last level (there is also a Willpower on the ledge to your left, and
there's an Anger on a platform behind the Ancient One). Aim for the eye,
and shoot it with the Minigun. Unless you're playing on the lowest difficult
level, you'll need to switch over to another weapon. The Napalm Launcher
is my favorite. |
