Volunteers

Welcoming newcomers—and helping them adjust to life in Canada—is a community effort. Canada’s economy and society are richer because of immigration. All Canadians have a part to play in helping immigrants and refugees adapt to life in Canada.

Be a Host to a Newcomer
Visit another culture—without leaving town. You can help newcomers adapt to their new life in Canada while learning about another culture. Volunteering to be a host is a rewarding experience for you and a great help to a newcomer.

Refugee Sponsorship
Your organization or group may sponsor refugees under the Refugee and Humanitarian Resettlement Program. Your group must commit to helping the refugee for one year. They might need help, for example, with food, clothing or accommodation.

Education and Activities
Working with community groups and individual Canadians, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) promotes the benefits of immigration and citizenship. Find out more about these activities.

Integration-Net
This website has useful information about settling in Canada. A great research tool, this site is designed to support the work of the Canadian settlement community. Find out about integration programs and strategies and share ideas that worked for you.
