Martin Foreman worked in HIV in the developing world between 1986 and 2006. Much of this time was spent as director of the Panos AIDS Programme; the latter years he was an independent consultant.

While working with Panos and for other organisations, Martin focused on access to HIV treatment and other services, youth involvement, sexuality and gender, particularly from the male perspective. He also covered stigma and discrimination, the uniformed forces and conflict, and media and communication.

Over the years Martin wrote, edited or worked on many key documents on HIV/AIDS which were widely used by donors and implementing agencies, including the ground-breaking AIDS and the Third World (1986), AIDS and Men (1999), Combat AIDS (2002).

Martin's geographical focus was Latin America in the 1990s, Africa (1990s - 2000s) and South-East Asia (2000s). His skills included project development and evaluation, writing for the general public and specialised audiences, negotiation, and leadership in workshops, conferences and seminars.

Martin worked with a wide range of UN agencies and national and international non-governmental organisations. From 2000 to 2002 he was chair of the UK NGO AIDS Consortium. From 2002 to 2006 he was chair of the Technical Advisory Group for YouthNet, a global reproductive health programme for young people.

Martin is no longer available on a regular basis for HIV/AIDS consultancies but is happy to reply to respond to any enquiries on this issue.
