Pedigree

Beethoven will try to exorcise three generations' worth of Kentucky Derby (G1) demons that have bedeviled his sire Sky Mesa, grandsire Pulpit and great-grandsire A.P. Indy. Pulpit was the only one of the three who actually ran for the roses, finishing fourth in 1997 and exiting the race with a bone chip. While A.P. Indy was scratched on the morning of the 1992 classic, Sky Mesa's hopes were abandoned because of a nagging foot bruise in mid-March of 2003. Like Beethoven, Sky Mesa was owned by John C. Oxley and trained by John Ward.

will be a good contender for derby but is just not as strong as other contenders and would have to run like giacamo did

This horse will probably not win the Derby. The Pulpit line tends to start flattening out around 1 1/16 to 1 1/8. It is unfortunate. But it is what it is. If you don't think this is accurate, read the heading above regarding this line. Pyro, whom I bet way too much money on last year, is a prime example. Purge, Corinthian, Oratory and Pyro were all great horses. However, they could not get 1 1/4 which is needed every first Saturday in May. Beethoven, unless he gets some strong influences from his dam side, will probably flatten out at the quarter pole come Derby day.

He may not win the Derby, but this guy does flat out give his all. I love the way he flys around the turns like Monarchos . His last three are great efforts and I like the way he has responded to 5 different jocks. He has run well on both dirt and synthetics. I just hope his 2 y.o. season didn't take it all out of him.

i think john ward will train him just like he did with monarchos. i would do this but if he has pedigree issue then he should work him 7 furlongs to a mile be fore the race . those works help build stamina
