Put Down the Vapid Rhetoric and Step Away from the Camera

A democracy requires accountability, and accountability requires transparency. As Justice Louis Brandeis wrote, "sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants." In our democracy, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which encourages accountability through transparency, is the most prominent expression of a profound national commitment to ensuring an open Government. At the heart of that commitment is the idea that accountability is in the interest of the Government and the citizenry alike.

So if one were interested in documents pertaining to the Obama administration’s decision put the Census in the hands of Rahm Emmanuel, they would exercise their rights under the Freedom of Information Act.

One Ugly Trillion Dollar Baby

This is disturbing:

It is now 7 PM and the Democrats in Congress have yet to give their Republican
counterparts a copy of the final Stimulus Bill
for them to read. Steny Hoyer
says that the House is going to move toward a vote starting at 9 AM tomorrow.

Today’s version of the bill clocks in at 1,434 pages and that’s not the final version. What Congress will likely vote on tomorrow (because President Obama has practically demanded that he sign it on Monday) is likely going to be larger.

There is no chance in the world that any member of Congress is going to be able to read the bill by morning unless they are a trained speed reader.

For Edification of the Laslo Boyds of the World

So if -- if you want to get -- if you want to buy a house, then putting zero down and buying a house that is probably not affordable for you in case something goes wrong, that's something that has to be reconsidered. So we're going to have to change our -- our bad habits.

--President Barack Obama, February 9, 2009

Bad habits encouraged by ACORN and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Of course some in Congress--not named Barack Obama--tried on multiple occasions to reign in the GSEs and possible stanch the looming meltdown.

Where was our President then? Raking in over $126,000 in campaign contributions from Fannie and Freddie, and paying ACORN 800,000 to get out the vote. And now ACORN stands to rake in billions of taxpayer money from his "stimulus bill"

But somehow tax cuts, which increased tax revenue is responsible for the financial crisis.

What's Good for the Corporate Goose is not Good for the Democrat Gander

Democrats have been on their soap boxes of high dudgeon castigating corporate executives over using taxpayer bailout money for lavish bonuses and and fat cat retreats. However, they feel no compunction over using taxpayer money to do the same thing themselves.

The Congressional Democrats are meeting at the Kingsmill Resort and Spa, where members will pay between $119 and $400 each night for their rooms. But taxpayers pick up the rest of the cost.

Taxpayer dollars are being spent for transportation—a chartered Amtrak train—and security to protect members of Congress, as well as facility and speaker fees.

When Preston asked the spokesperson for the Democratic Caucus for the total taxpayer expense, he was told that no one had that answer.
