Divorced from Reality

Almost as if in rebuttal to my comments about The Wire, Governor O'Malley mouthed off about it:
O'Malley also answered a question about the HBO television show "The Wire," a gritty crime show that was based on and filmed in Baltimore, mostly while he was mayor. The student asked whether O'Malley believed the show had anything to offer about problems facing big cities.

"I tell you what: I can't stand 'The Wire,'" O'Malley said. "I can't stand 'The Wire.' I can't say that I've ever seen an entire episode of it. I watched enough of it to know that it did not portray the full picture of what Baltimore is all about as a city.

Kipke: If furloughs pass, count me in

Del. Nic Kipke (R-Pasadena) announced Monday that if Gov. Martin O'Malley's (D-Baltimore) proposed furlough program is implemented, he'll voluntarily participate.

ANNAPOLIS -- The Maryland Republican Party may have found its soul at this weekend's state GOP Fall 2008 Convention, but the state's beleaguered minority party seemed to have trouble laying out a detailed communications strategy.

State GOPers made one thing clear during their weekend summit: The party lost its way, ditched its own values and ultimately lost an election.

Republicans seemed to agree that getting back to basics, whether it be on strategy or ideology, was what needed to occur.

Harris leaves 2010 door wide open

ANNAPOLIS -- Republican Andy Harris made clear on Friday that he's leaving his options open for 2010.

"I think there's a reasonable chance I'll be running for something in 2010 that's state level or the federal level. That still remains to be seen," Harris told PolitickerMD.com at the Double Tree Hotel at the state party's Fall 2008 Convention, which lasted Friday evening thorough Saturday afternoon.

Cardin expects 'many Marylanders' to be tapped for Obama administration

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Baltimore) on Friday said he was not surprised so many Marylanders were under speculation for a post in the Obama administration.

"We knew we had all the talent in our state," Cardin said at a reporters round table in the Hart Senate Building. "We are proud many Marylanders are participating in the transition and we expect that many Marylanders are going to be tapped for the Obama administration before everything's complete."
