Here it is! ALL NEW! and this audience is SPARKLING with excitement because a fortune in fabulous prizes can be THEIRS if they know when the Price is Right!
Here's the STAR of the Nighttime Price is Right, TOM KENNEDY!
Here's Tom accepting his microphone and saying hello to Janice at the beginning of the show. |
Tom had big shoes to fill when he did the nighttime show in place of Bob Barker, who was busy doing the daytime show. He did a great job! |
Here's Tom with a contestant ready to play the Money Game. Listen to Tom's explanation of the game, and find out if the contestant won. :) |
Here's Tom with a contestant standing in front of the "futuristic" giant price tag. Of the different designs of this tag, this one was the shortest-lived. |
Here's the entire on air crew of the nighttime show loitering in the Price is Right department store ;). From L to R, Holly Hallstrom, Johnny Olsen, the winning contestant, her 2 friends, Janice Pennington, a resting Tom Kennedy (that chair does look comfy :), and Dian Parkinson. |
Some interesting tidbits:
The show aired in daily syndication from September 9th, 1985 through September 5, 1986.
There were two announcers. Early on Johnny Olsen did the announcing until his death in October 1985. Then Rod Roddy took over the duties of announcing.
Kennedy's TPiR had the first contestant to ever get all 5 prizes in Switcheroo right on the first try.
Most of the production staff for the daytime Price is Right worked on this version as well, so the show maintained a very familiar look and feel.
Tom has said that he was very nervous having to fill such large shoes, but anyone who has seen this series must admit he did a *great* job.
Tom Kennedy hosted a number game shows in the past, including Password Plus, Whew!, Body Language, 50 Grand Slam, Doctor IQ, It's Your Bet, Name That Tune, Split Second, To Say the Least, Wordplay, You Don't Say!, and Break the Bank.
There was no Showcase Showdown in this version, however contestant's row remained. They would take the two highest winners of the day, and they would be in the showcase at the end of the show.
