Maureen Post RSS Feed

OnMilwaukee.com staff writer Maureen Post grew up in Wauwatosa. A lover of international and urban culture, Maureen received a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

After living on the east side of Madison for several years, Maureen returned to Milwaukee in 2006.

After a brief stint of travel, Maureen joined OnMilwaukee.com as the city’s oldest intern and has been hooked ever since. Combining her three key infatuations, Milwaukee’s great music, incredible food and inspiring art (and yes, in that order), Maureen’s job just about fits her perfectly.

Residing in Bay View, Maureen vehemently believes the city can become fresh and new with a simple move across town.

 The dangers of drinking
When it comes to drinking, the real dangers lie in the more serious, life changing and long term effects of alcohol. Drinking and driving might be the first one to come to mind but addiction, liver disease, date rape and unprotected sex are all often the result of heavy nights of binge drinking over a prolonged period of time.

A drink a day: Mandarin margarita
The margarita is the classic addition to a Mexican meal and I'd argue, the perfect addition to a summer day in the sun. The original margarita served on the rocks is my favorite go to but, this mandarin twist is refreshing with a citrus blend of lime and orange.

Is this the year for "Anti-Valentine's Day?"
The "Anti-Valentine's Day" craze begs the question, does Valentine's Day have to be a love-it-or-hate-it kind of holiday? If you're single, do you automatically throw any lover's sentiment to the wind with a scoff and a "Hallmark holiday" quip?

MULYP sends students to college via "Dating Game"
This Friday, the Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals holds the fourth annual "Dating Game and Bachelor / Bachelorette Auction." Formatted like the 1970s hit television show `The Dating Game," male and female partners will be divided by a screen and asked a series of questions regarding their mate.

The ease of "Trouble in Mind"
Last night's performance of "Trouble in Mind" at The Rep made me love Milwaukee theater again. After several area shows in the last couple of years that personally missed the mark, I was blown away by how much I loved "Trouble in Mind."

 Saigon Vietnamese focuses on pho
Located just across the street from Phan's Garden Vietnamese Restaurant, Saigon Restaurant occupies the first level of a two-story house. A staple of this South Side community for more than 10 years, Saigon is a haven of home cooking for Vietnamese immigrants; typically the tried and true sign of ethnic culinary authenticity.

Featured bartender: Pat White of 5th Ward Pub
Admittedly shy and modestly questioning the rationale behind choosing him for a bartender profile, you'll understand in minutes why Pat White of 5th Ward Pub is one of the city's favorites.

"Handmade Nation" knits together a close community
The only thing more extraordinary than the showing of the locally made feature documentary "Handmade Nation," was the locally produced buzz and turnout that greeted the film at the Oriental Theatre last night.

A drink a day: Mexican Sangrita
There's nothing like adding a little spice to give tequila an extra punch. I tried this Mexican Sangrita at the Chicago restaurant Maize. It was so tasty, I looked up the recipe and made a batch at home.
