Mubarak exempts small farmers from half of their debts owed to agricultural credit bank

President Hosni Mubarak has asked the government to write off half of the debts owed by small farmers to the Bank of Development and Agricultural Credit. The President said the public treasury will shoulder these debts. The president stressed the significance of the role of farmers and the sector of agriculture, saying the government spares no effort to mitigate the burdens shouldered by farmers.

President Mubarak and Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Nazif have reviewed on 21/2/2009 the bill submitted by the government to the People's Assembly for earmarking an additional appropriation of LE 13.5 billion in the state general budget for increasing public spending reactivating investment and economic activity to sooth the effects of the global financial crisis on the Egyptian economy, to stimulate local demand and to maintain labour in different sectors.
