S.F.: No shelter at Muni stopSunday, March 1, 2009 Here's the dealMuni stop without shelter: When he waits for a Muni bus, David Hawz-Men - who gets by with a four-wheel walker - prefers to wait in a Muni shelter. But one of the stops that Hawz-Men uses - the one for the 30, 45, and 9x buses on Third Street between Harrison Street and St. Francis Place - has no shelter. More Bay Area News
The stop was moved there from a previous location on Third Street between Stillman and Perry streets, and therein lies the rub for Hawz-Men. This previous stop was located beneath Highway 101, which offered Hawz-Men protection from the rain and sun, but the freeway's retrofitting forced the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency to move the stop to its current location. Says Hawz-Men in an e-mail to Chronicle Watch: "Building a Muni shelter with seats at this location would shelter riders from the (rain, heat) and cold wind. Could you make this a reality?" Actually, there's no need. At the end of March, the Municipal Transportation Agency will discontinue the stop at Third Street and move it close to its original location, according to agency spokesman Judson True. In addition, the transit agency is considering building a permanent shelter for this Muni stop. Both developments should be good news for Hawz-Men.
