March may be cold, but it's hot and heavy here at OnMilwaukee.com as we celebrate our first-ever Sex Week. We're taking a mature look at local video and sex toy shops, area strip clubs, sexy Milwaukee events -- and even some connections between Brew City and Playboy magazine. It's serious, responsible, adult-themed content -- but don't worry, parents, we'll keep it PG-13 in case junior stumbles upon these stories as OnMilwaukee.com turns a pale shade of blue for seven days.
Reading all these "sexy" stories and blogs at OnMilwaukee.com has made me want to spend time in bed.
Sadly, it's not what you think ...
I don't get sick very often, so I didn't pay much attention the past two weeks when just about everybody I talked with seemed to be ill, recovering from being ill or dealing with a sick child or spouse. It's cold and flu season and the warm weather last week apparently wreaked some level of havoc with several allergy sufferers.
My radio partner, Channel 12 sports director Dan Needles, spent most of Tuesday and Wednesday battling the bug. I talked to him on the phone both days and he sounded miserable, but I was too busy to give it too much thought.
Last night, at the Bucks game, my joints started to feel a little bit achy. I figured it was because I worked out the other night. Then, my throat started to get scratchy. On the drive home, I began to experience a shallow, dry, hacking and somewhat painful cough.
By the time I hit the rack, I was feeling the chills.
Uh-oh.
I battled through the morning (a shower and poached egg made me feel a little better). I pounded some Airborne (probably too late for that) and some DayQuil and went to work. I felt sore and light-headed, but soldiered on.
I headed home at around noon, hoping to do a bunch of work and create a live blog of Marquette's first game in the Big East tournament. I answered some e-mails, worked on a few stories and felt the creeping crud advance.
With the Golden Eagles safely in the lead before halftime, I retired to the sofa, shivering despite lying under two large blankets and next to a 75-pound dog that I'm still expecting to be famous some day.
I woke up at 4:45 p.m., with the Marquette game over, my joints aching and a somewhat bleak outlook about the next few days. Informed of my condition, my much better half asked a very pertinent question: "Are you going to the doctor?"
I almost laughed. We've been married for 11 years and she still hasn't realized that I'd need to be hit with an elephant gun before I willingly subject myself to the delays and co-pays of the health care system. I believe in self-medicating through minor illnesses. Since I can't write myself a prescription for antibiotics, I figured I would appeal to the generosity of OnMilwaukee.com readers.
So, here it is...
Does anybody out there know what I can do to get rid of this intensifying bug? Use the Talkback feature to let me know. I have to rest a bit.
