The Suffolk County Sheriff's office employs 841 correction officers, 247 deputy sheriffs and 130 civilian personnel.


Suffolk County has a population of over 1.5 million and, and our entire staff works tirelessly to serve and protect our residents through innovative programs to reduce inmate recidivism, by promoting sound fiscal policies and by working cooperatively with law enforcement and community groups throughout the county to improve safety in our jails and our neighborhoods.

February 27, 2009 - Sheriff’s Office Arrests Net Heroin, Cocaine and Six Felony Charges
Following up on intelligence gathered during an investigation into a hit and run occurring on the Long Island Expressway, Deputy Sheriff Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau conducted a narcotics investigation at 329 Hancock Street in Brentwood, resulting in two arrests for multiple drug charges including six felonies.
January 30, 2009 - “End” Zone for Superbowl D.W.I.’s
The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office reminds Superbowl partygoers to be responsible and not drink and drive. The Sheriff’s Office will be supplementing patrols on the Sunrise Highway and Long Island Expressway on Superbowl Sunday in an effort to deter motorists from getting behind the wheel after drinking during the Superbowl.
January 27, 2009 - County Officials Refute Newsday’s Story on Sheriff Overtime
Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent DeMarco and County Executive Steve Levy cited as inaccurate a Newsday story claiming that Sheriff overtime has uncharacteristically spiked in the fourth quarter of 2008 due to the increased usage of Suffolk County Sheriffs to patrol the Long Island Expressway and Sunrise Highway.
January 13, 2009 - Wrong Way D.W.I. In H.O.V.
Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Manuel Santos, d.o.b. 11/21/76, of Brentwood, New York, last night at 7:30 p.m., following multiple calls reporting a driver traveling eastbound in the westbound H.O.V. lane of the Long Island Expressway. He has been charged with D.W.I. and is due to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip today.
January 12, 2009 - “No Violence is G.R.E.A.T.” Sheriff’s Program
200 Patchogue Students Complete “G.R.E.A.T.” Program
On Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 9:00 a.m., the South Ocean Avenue Middle School in Patchogue will hold its first G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Graduation. This is the culmination of a 13-lesson program administered by the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office aimed at preventing youth crime, violence and gang involvement while developing a positive relationship among law enforcement families and young people.
