Configuring Ubuntu Server as a Firewall and Reverse Proxy for OWA 2007…

E-mail Print

Ok, I admit it – there definitely seems to be a distinct Linux flare to my posts over the last few months considering the continuing series of articles based around iSCSI which make heavy use of the Linux based SAN OpenFiler and indeed now I am writing about using the popular Linux Distribution Ubuntu server – some of you might be thinking “has he gone over to the Dark Side? and embraced the Penguin?”

The truth is – I really like Linux, and indeed whilst it do not proclaim to be in anyway shape or form an “expert” in the subject (although I do have a lot of exposure to IBM AIX where I work) I think that it has a very strong place as an alternative to certain Microsoft Technologies when you are working to a budget but still wish to maintain security and stability – I know that there are others whom will argue that it is the better solution!.

One such example is the deployment of Exchange 2007 OWA published via ISA 200x. I have had a few questions recently from people whom have asked “I have Exchange and I want to publish OWA to the Internet – but I cannot afford ISA as well”.

Service Desk Password Reset Tool

E-mail Print

Although this is mainly and Exchange Server focused site, I had said that I would like to publish more varied content for my readers hoping to give them access to more of the stuff that I have been working on over the years aside from Exchange Server - the Service Desk Password Reset tool is the first article that I would like to publish on the site which has less of an Exchange orientation - but firmly stays within the world of Microsoft Technologies.
The Service Desk Password Reset tool is a small web based application that I wrote in 2006 for my companies Help Desk desk staff - essentially the following business needs had arisen which our Front Line service had to address:

  • Reduce by 95% the amount of password resets that were being passed to the back end service
  • Deal with 95% of password resets at front line
  • To do this at no cost
  • The remaining 5% of password resets are to do with Applications rather than Active Directory

Exchange 2007 SCC Clustering in VMWARE using iSCSI for the Massess (the Good Bits) - part 5

E-mail Print

Sorry for the delay in getting this part out to you folks, I have alas been very busy not just only in work – but also working hard to get the new version of my site up and working. For those of you whom have just joined us this is part 5 of a series that I have been doing which shows you how you can create an Exchange 2007 SCC Cluster using iSCSI – if you wish to catch up on the goings on (I know that I need to) the previous 4 parts are below:

In the last part (Part 4) we had added a disk to the OpenFiler based SAN and created 3 partitions on this disk for use with our Exchange SCC cluster. We also configured the correct network access range to allow for these disks to be accessed over iSCSI.

In this part of the article I will show you how you can configure each of the partitions that we have created to be presented as iSCSI targets to the Windows 2003 iSCSI initiator.
