Zips @ 1:25 pm pdt - nintendo fps - 2 comments
The upcoming Sega title, The Conduit, was given the label of "best looking" Wii title by the game's producer, Josh Olson. With a handful of new screens having just been released and a fresh trailer to feast your eyes upon, we'll leave the judging in your hands.

Interview - Dead Space: Extraction
Zips @ 8:41 pm pdt - nintendo fps - post a comment!
Dead Space: Extraction has been generating a lot of buzz lately. Eurogamer is there to ask some of those burning questions you may have about the game. The crew sat down with Steve Papoutsis, the game's executive producer, to give gamers a greater insight into the upcoming shooter.
Eurogamer: What did you make of House of the Dead: OVERKILL, another on-rails Wii shooter? How do you feel your two game compares?

Steve Papoutsis:
Dead Space: Extraction is a guided first person experience - we have branching paths, areas of player controlled camera, zero-g, dismemberment, stasis, an array of unique weapons, TK, and a few other surprises that evolve the genre in many ways. Overkill was fun and, yes, it was a pure rail shooter. We have added so much to Extraction that comparisons to it should quickly fade away.
That does sound a bit more reassuring that the game won't be a complete on-rails shooter. But don't take my word for it, read more of the multi-page interview over at Eurogamer!

More Dead Space: Extraction Shots
Zips @ 11:02 am pdt - nintendo fps - post a comment!
More shots from the upcoming Wii title, Dead Space: Extraction, are starting to make the rounds on the Internets today. These shots appear to be a mix of both concept art and potential in-game screens, or at least mock-ups of what in-game shots may end up looking like.

The Intel Far Cry 2 Mapping Contest
The Intel sponsored Far Cry 2 mapping contest has just kicked off. Map makers have until April 26 to design a Far Cry 2 map that is creative, original, fun, and runs well. There is just one major requirement that all maps must have in order to be even considered.

The above "Intel Paraglider" must be featured in any submitted map. The glider cannot be altered in any way, but beyond that the sky is the limit (pardon the pun).

A two minute long video showing off the map and four screenshots must also be included in the submission. All of this work will pay off for the winners. Intel Core i7 processors, collector's editions of Far Cry 2, and other Ubisoft goodies are all up for grabs.

Hit the break for a video that mixes both Intel advertising with a description of the contest. For more details on the contest, head on over to the official entry page.

First Trailer for RE: Darkside Chronicles
Zips @ 5:57 pm pdt - nintendo fps - 3 comments
Capcom has already rolled out their first trailer for Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles. As you may recall, the Darkside Chronicles is the follow-up to the Umbrella Chronicles, also on the Wii.

The Darkside Chronicles is a Wii exclusive and follows some of the events in Resident Evil 2. Like its predecessor, the gameplay looks to be made up an on-rails shooter experience and some quick-time events.

Dead Space: Extraction Details
Zips @ 12:12 pm pdt - nintendo fps - post a comment!
More details were spilled recently on what games can expect from the Wii version of Dead Space, Dead Space: Extraction. In speaking with CVG and Gametrailers TV, EA's Glen Schofield gave us insight on the time frame and locations that Extraction will take place in.
"It's a prequel. It actually takes place about three weeks before Isaac gets to the Ishimura," Schofield told Gametrailers TV. "Isaac's not even in the game at all."

Schofield also reiterated that you play as a woman in the on-rails first-person shooter spin-off, and said there are "a couple of people you'll be playing in the game", which makes sense given the previous promise of co-operative multiplayer.
He goes on to say that gamers will begin their journey on the planet's surface and then will board the Ishimura as the game progresses. The game will actually take gamers right up to the point that Isaac Clark arrives in the original Dead Space title.

Weapons will include a few different pistols, a flamethrower, and other weapons that Schofield didn't want to reveal just yet. Dead Space: Extraction is due out for the Wii later this year.

Dead Space Extraction - "Guided First-Person Experience"
Zips @ 3:45 pm pst - nintendo fps - 3 comments
Dead Space, even with its faults and short length, was an engaging survival-horror experience. This is why it is sad to see that Dead Space Extraction, the Wii entry into the series, will be a "guided first-person experience."

Here's what Steve Papoutsis, the game's Executive Producer, says on what gamers should expect from Extraction.
"Dead Space Extraction" is a Guided First Person Experience. The player will be presented with many choices as they play the game, ranging from which path they wish to explore to maneuvering in Zero-G. The game is being developed from the ground up to leverage the unique controls of the Nintendo Wii. Players will use their Wii Remote to aim and dismember oncoming enemies as well as use other mechanics from “Dead Space” such as Stasis and Telekinesis to name a few.
It sounds to me as though "guided first-person experience" is just a fancy way of saying "on rails shooter." If that isn't a huge let down, I don't know what is. However, if that sort of thing is your bag, you can read more at the MTV Multiplayer Blog.

Dawn of the Left 4 Dead
Zips @ 10:47 am pst - skins, maps, & textures - 5 comments
A mod team is already hard at work on creating the mall from the classic zombie film, Dawn of the Dead, for use in Left 4 Dead. The Crossroads Mall map began its life in 2005 as a map for the Half-Life 2 mod, No More Room in Hell.

Since then, the map has been updated and is coming along quite nicely as a new, user-created map for Left 4 Dead.

The team released a video of the map that dates back to 2007. The footage seen in the video (after the break) is reportedly quite outdated and many of the props have been replaced to better fit into the Left 4 Dead universe.

The team promises that a new trailer should be released shortly. We'll toss that up on CS-Nation once it's made available.
