Mission
The Suffolk County Youth Council seeks to identify and improve educational and employment opportunities for youth (ages 14-21) so that they may attain the skills needed to complete educational and career goals, and successfully enter the workplace.
Membership
Members of the Youth Council include representatives from youth service agencies, educational entities, members of the Suffolk County Workforce Investment Board, and other individuals appointed by the County Executive and Board Chair.

The Mentoring Partnership of Long Island connects youth with caring adult mentors that provide guidance and support in structured mentoring programs. The Partnership provides technical assistance to community organizations, businesses and schools in the design and implementation of mentoring programs, provides recruitment and training of volunteer mentors, and raises public awareness of the value of mentoring programs.

VESID enables eligible adults and students with disabilities to have access to employment, economically productive lives, and independence. VESID offers counseling, guidance, job preparation services, training, and placement services. VESID assists business and industry to meet their hiring needs by making available qualified applicants for employment. VESID promotes the hiring of persons with disabilities.

Long Island Works Coalition is a regional initiative to bridge the gap between business and education. It encourages a network between businesses, academia, parents, students (kindergarten through college) and the community at large. It prepares students with the knowledge, skills and experience to be successful in the workforce and increases awareness of the educational and career opportunities that exist on Long Island. It maintains an electronic internship clearinghouse for college and high school students.

PAL is a non-profit organization that provides organized sports program throughout Suffolk County for children 5-18 years of age. It was created with the intent of giving children healthy social and behavioral skills that would reduce their susceptibility to gang involvement, alcohol and drug use, and delinquency. PAL celebrated its 31st anniversary in 2004.

MCPL provides for the informational and cultural needs of the community with its collections, programs and services. Reference, circulating book, periodical, pamphlet, media and supplementary collections are found in both the Children’s and Adult Services Departments. Services include Career Information Center, Suffolk Family Education Clearinghouse, community services, the Computer Place, cultural programming, the Museum Corner, Parenting Services, Teen Services, WISE (World of Information for Seniors and Elderly), the Center for Business and Careers, which includes the Business, Finance and Law Collections and the Library Business Connection, and a full range of early childhood and school-age children’s services.

Offers employment related services to Suffolk County youth. The Center offers youth career counseling, resume preparation, computer labs, job listings, vocational training, video library, phones/fax for job search and career exploration via Career Zone and Choices. Additional programs include: In-School (ages 14-21) and Out-of-School (ages 16-21) Youth Work Experience Programs, which are federally funded, school based programs for economically disadvantaged, at-risk youth, and the Summer Youth Employment Program designed to provide first-time work experience opportunities to economically disadvantaged youth.

South Shore Community is a nonprofit agency that offers Islip Town youth (up to age 21) and their families free access to educational and recreational programs such as tutoring/homework assistance, employment training, drop-in lounge, sports programs, and cultural trips. Job Corps provides outreach and admissions counseling free of charge to low-income youth (ages 16-24).Youth live in a residential campus-type setting where they will receive assistance in completing their education and obtain the skills to learn a trade.Graduates receive job placement assistance upon program completion.
