A.A. Bondy: Waking Dreams In The Middle West

A.A. Bondy
Left New York in afternoon and headed west into the cold, feeling a bit like a truck driver and wishing I was on a horse. Drove ten hours and slept in the car at some rest stop.

Woke up and rolled onto Chicago. Had a good show with a bunch of Chicagoans at Schuba's. Drove out after show and slept in car again.

On to Bloomington. Looked for old barns on sides of the highway. There were many. Old and melting slowly into the ground. They look as if they grew out of the ground like the trees or grass or any other natural made thing.

Lots of Christian signs out here. HELL IS REAL. JESUS IS COMING AND BOY IS HE MAD. I’m sure.

Went to a state park outside of Bloomington where they allowed hunting. Was going to hike around, but heard rifle cracks when I got out of the car. As I didn’t have any fluorescent clothing I decided against roaming around the woods. Saw a pair of bald eagles and dozens of vultures.

The venue was called Bear’s Place and they showed a movie before the gig called "Man on Wire," about a Frenchman who walked a tightrope between the World Trade Centers buildings in the 70s.

On to Minneapolis to see my old friends at the 400 Bar and play with a band called the Heartless Bastards. It was cold, they were good and loud, and the singer Erica has a very fine voice. Nice to make some new friends.

Next night Madison at the High Noon Saloon. Good show with a bunch more nice folks. Said bye and pointed the car east towards boston for to meet up with my band.

Surfed through this year's first big snowstorm with all the other pilgrims. Thought about making films and ended up sleeping in the car again.
