SeditionAttack on professor an example of hysteriaMartin Weinstein apparently believes that he is defending academic freedom and integrity, the Constitution of the United States, and the country itself in his outrageous attack on professor Clemens Work in the April 16 Missoulian. He accuses Work of indoctrinating students, grading by political correctness rather than quality, destroying the Constitution, trying to lead us to a neo-Marxist utopia, sowing the seeds of defeat in Iraq and being the unholy ally of Islamic terrorists. - Letters for Monday, April 24, 2006
Coyote hunt‘Sportsmen' are disgusting, barbaricI can't remember being as repulsed and offended by a newspaper article as by “Thrill Chasers” in the April 16 Missoulian. The description of “sportsmen” coming from across the country to watch dogs tear a coyote to death and mark their faces with the hapless animal's blood was truly disgusting and made me ashamed to share the same gene pool with these specimens. The narrative was exceeded only by the photograph of the alleged “lady” in all her hunting finery proudly displaying her bloody makeup. So much for a thousand years of civilization. - Letters for Tuesday, April 25, 2006
Conrad BurnsSenator's record is all you need to seeSure enough, it arrived: the letter out of the blue on an important subject, but one I had not addressed to Sen. Conrad Burns. - Letters for Wednesday, April 26, 2006
Military serviceMaking fun of veteran was disgracefulI would like to address Lois Covault (Missoulian letters, April 14). Before running your far-left sarcasm toward Thomas Livoti (Missoulian letters, April 7), you might want to ponder your freedom and thank this veteran for what you have in this country. - Letters for Thursday, April 20, 2006
Ravalli CountyMake sure box stores are responsibleThanks to the unanimous vote of the Ravalli County commissioners, they, with input from citizens, have a year to evaluate the pros and cons of allowing giant box stores to locate to the Bitterroot Valley. This time should be used to get the facts and inspect our values. At the April 12 commissioners' meeting, I heard over and over that, “We shouldn't get in the way of free enterprise.” I agree. However, in our rush to get out of the way of the free market, we need to make sure that we are not instead promoting a culture of corporate permissiveness. - Letters for Friday, April 21, 2006
Global warmingArrogant to think man has no effectI find Doc Schuldheisz's April 13 letter, in which he claims that "One would have to be extraordinarily arrogant to think that human activity could disrupt or direct any natural force," ignorant, condescending and presumptuous. For a company shill, he's in industrial-strength denial dismissive of most anything having to do with the reality of global warming. He doesn't know his own toxic portfolio from a hole in the ground.
