[edit] History
It was first started as the Frank Wiggins Trade School in 1925. After World War II it became Metropolitan Polytechnical High School and later Metropolitan College. It became Trade-Technical Junior College as a community college in 1954. In 1969, the college merged with Los Angeles Community College District which currently holds nine member colleges.
A giant magnolia tree grew in front of the campus until it was cut down in 2004.
[edit] New developments
The construction of the new south campus has begun, following the demolition of the existing athletic field and parking structure, which is located on the northwest corner of 23rd Street and Grand Avenue. The south campus project is a new five story "twintowers" on Grand Avenue. One tower is the student services building, which will provide various services to students. The second tower is the technology building that will include new lecture halls, classrooms, computer labs and faculty offices. Construction of the south campus is scheduled for completion in April 2010.
