This page is for requesting that a page, image or template be fully protected, semi-protected, move-protected or unprotected. Please read up on the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection is usually used only to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars.

After a page has been protected, the protection is listed in the page history and logs with a short description indicating why it was protected, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. Further discussion should take place on the Talk page of the article. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins do not revert back to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Instructions

If you would like to request a page to be protected or unprotected, please follow the following steps:

  1. If you are requesting unprotection, it is almost always a good idea to ask the protecting admin first before listing a page here.
  2. Add a level 3 header (i.e. ==== {{la|Example}} ====) at the TOP of either the protection or unprotection list and place one of the templates from the table below within the header. Please make sure you have spelled the name of the article properly; a common error stems from mistaken requests for the protection of redirects, particularly capitalised ones.
  3. If you are requesting protection, place the type of request (full protection, semi-protection, or move protection) and a brief reason for your request below your header.
  4. Please do not add arbitrary requests for a protection expiry time to your request, or request indefinite protection arbitrarily.
    • If there is a reason for a page to be protected for a certain amount of time, such as protecting a usertalk page until the user is unblocked, please make this clear.
    • If you are requesting indefinite semi-protection, be aware that it is only applied to articles with endemic and endless vandalism problems which multiple increasing periods of temporary semi-protection have failed to stop.
    • Note that different expiry times can now be set for edit and move-protections, so an article can, for example, be semi-edit-protected for a week and full-move-protected indefinitely.
  5. Sign your request with four tildes ~~~~ and save.
  • Note that this is not a venue for continuing an argument from elsewhere. If a request contains excessive arguing, is being used for edit-warring or content disputes, contains personal attacks or uncivil comments, or any other unrelated discussion, it will be removed from this page.

[edit] Current requests for protection

Place requests for either semi-protection, full protection, move protection, or create protection at the TOP of this section. Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Catherine Crier (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite full-protection Extremely damaging vandalism by sleeper autoconfirmed accounts to a high-profile but underpatroled biography of a living person. Hipocrite (talk) 08:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected, indef, and asked Hipocrite to post on ANI as super high priority. Someone has to clean up the revs and hit Oversight but I'm way too tired/sick to sort it out beyond this. rootology/equality 08:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] List of WWE pay-per-view events (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Consensus at WP:PW is to keep the name for the September PPV as it is, however several IP editors want to change the name, despite there being a polite invisible warning. 30 edits in three days, it is getting tiresome. I'm going to ask for a month but I suspect that once lifte4d it will begin again. This issue won't really be settled until mid-July. Darrenhusted (talk) 08:29, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Estonia–Luxembourg relations (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Users restoring a deleted version of the page (which was recreated as a disambig page and had its history restored for some shaky GFDL compliance concerns. See consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Estonia–Luxembourg relations. Request protection through June 5 when the nomination of the dab page (at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Estonia–Luxembourg relations (2nd nomination)) is due to close. Stifle (talk) 08:08, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Dolla (rapper) (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

semi-protection vandalism, IP vandalism resumed right when protection ended; possibly still because of fan reaction of his May 18 murder. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:51, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Lewis Hamilton (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Mostly by IP's. One problem is the replacement of Hamilton's photo with one of the footballer of the same name. Mjroots (talk) 06:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Fat Joe (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IP's have been misbehaving again for the past three days; page has been unprotected since April 20, but vandalism wasn't too much of a problem earlier during the "unlocked" period. Andrewlp1991 (talk) 06:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Taylor Lautner (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Frequent vandalism and violations of WP:BLP. Andrea (talk) 05:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected. –Juliancolton | Talk 05:34, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sinhalese people (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite cascading full protection vandalism, vandalism. Blackknight12 (talk) 05:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. –Juliancolton | Talk 05:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Keyshia Cole (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, Continuous addition of unsourced content violating WP:BLP and general disruption. — Σxplicit 04:18, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mr. Kennedy (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-Protection He was just released from his contract and this has caused multiple IP's to start vandalizing his article. A couple of days could help. TJ Spyke 04:13, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days. After 3 days the page will be automatically unprotected. Stifle (talk) 08:10, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] List of Argentine provinces by Human Development Index (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary full protection. There seems to be a constant stream of Italodal vandalism to this article. The article has a official hdi report here about all the argentine provinces hdi as reference, but the argentine user Italodal remove the official report by United Nations, I already told him don't remove it but the user did it again and again.--TownDown (talk) 18:04, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

If you simply want to make spelling corrections or add information to a protected page that is not disputed, and you are not involved in any disputes there, consider simply adding {{Editprotected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. See the list of current {{Editprotected}} requests.

If you do want a page that exists unprotected, please try to ask the protecting admin first before making a request here.

Check here if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

[edit] Moon (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Moon has been semiprotected for over a year because someone tried to move it to Luna. The only rationale for this that I can tell is that 2 years ago there was a rash of vandalism (according to my research...) and it was protected for a bit. The sysop who left it protected for May 2008-2009 has been gone for a week so I'm posting here. .froth. (talk) 00:09, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Stifle (talk) 08:12, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I've restored move protection, based on the high-profile nature of the page and the extremely low chance for a valid move that does not involve extensive discussion first. --Ckatzchatspy 09:21, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Current requests for edits to a protected page

When making requests here, either:
  • Provide a good reason for a substantial edit to a protected page. These are only done in exceptional circumstances, or when there is very clear consensus for an edit and continued protection. Please link to the talk page where consensus was reached.
  • Demonstrate that there is a clear dispute over a protected page, and that a specific dispute tag would be appropriate to add. Please link to the talk page where the dispute exists.

Note: Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add {{Editprotected}}, {{Editsemiprotected}} or {{Request edit}} to the article's talk page if you would like an inconsequential change rather than requesting it here, though most of these should simply wait for unprotection.

[edit] Julie Myers (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indef Full Protect. Edit war between one editor who is trying to reach consensus and another editor who is refusing to communicate before editing. If consensus is reached the protection should be lifted, or if both editors simply fade away, another editor should be able to request unprotection.Drew Smith What I've done 04:17, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected for a period of 1 week. After 1 week the page will be automatically unprotected., 1 week --Ryan Delaney talk 04:27, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Philippines (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Fully protect. Massive edit warring. 23prootie (talk) 03:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Looks like the edit warring is between two editors, and you're one of them. Why shouldn't we just block both of you rather than protect the article? --Ryan Delaney talk 03:29, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
I sorry but I have been trying to talk to that editor in the talk page but I apparently got nowhere. It is not my fault that it had to go here. Besides that editor has been trying to remove highly sourced material so I'm just trying to protect the age.--23prootie (talk) 03:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Declined Page protection is not a means to establish a particular version. Stop edit warring and use dispute resolution if things aren't going your way on the talk page. --Ryan Delaney talk 03:35, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Sixteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, For over a month, all edits have been either Vandalism or reversion of Vandalism. SMP0328. (talk) 01:21, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:22, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
How much Vandalism must there be before semi-protection is justified? SMP0328. (talk) 01:25, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Page protection is necessary when the vandalism becomes difficult or nearly impossible to control. –Juliancolton | Talk 01:27, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Reversion is always possible. Under your logic, nothing should be semi-protected. SMP0328. (talk) 01:30, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
It has nothing to do with logic. It's the standard. I agree with Juliancolton's decision to decline protection. - Rjd0060 (talk) 01:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Thirded. --Ryan Delaney talk 03:26, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hella cashout (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite create-protection, Repeatedly recreated speedy deletion. Vicenarian (T · C) 01:48, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Done Acroterion (talk · contribs · blocks · protects · deletions · moves · rights) has protected it permanently. --Ryan Delaney talk 01:56, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Spanish Empire (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protect. Article has been the subject of repeated identical reversions for several months by permanently blocked and prolific sock-puppeteer User:Cosialscastells who did not get his way after talk page debate about the map for the article. Page was semi-protected for a month after he resorted to IP accounts to continue the reversions. The block has expired, and he is now back. 1 2 3 4 5 identical reverts in as many days. Given that a month was not long enough for him to lose interest, is it possible to semi-protect for two months this time? The Red Hat of Pat Ferrick t 22:12, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined – There is not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection at this time. If there's significantly more disruptive activity in the future, consider relisting. Edits were three days apart; not enough for protection yet. Blueboy96 01:53, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Matthias I of Hungary (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary full-protection, I keep adding neutral, foreign sources about his Romanian origin (that is, his father was the Romanian nobleman John Hunyadi), sources from Corvin's contemporaries, yet I see someone tries to push a Hungarian or even Cuman descent on his father's side. I believe the vast amount of sources which indicate his Romanian descent at least allow for this "theory" to remain in the article, since there are many more numerous, and more objective, sources claiming he is Romanian, than otherwise. I don't see how you can delete from the article information which is based on historical sources.--Venatoreng (talk) 00:04, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined I'm not going to protect m:The Wrong Version. Use dispute resolution and avoid edit-warring. Thanks, --Ryan Delaney talk 00:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Mark Ellmore (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Semi-protect. There has been constant vandalism of this article by random IP addressed and new user accounts whose only edits are in the said article. The vandalism has led to character defamation. A persistent editing and reverting war has been going on for the past several days. GBVrallyCI (talk) 23:30, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Declined The vandalism is of course problematic but not severe enough. I warned the user. If he comes back, report him to WP:AIV. Thanks, --Ryan Delaney talk 00:31, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Yuri Zhirkov (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection, Excessive unsourced premature edits by IP editors jumping the gun on a player signing with Chelsea based on sketchy reports out of Russia. It probably will happen within the next 72 hours so a short term protection would be helpful. Mosmof (talk) 21:52, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 72 hours. After 72 hours the page will be automatically unprotected. --Ryan Delaney talk 00:35, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Patrick Holford (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary full protection, WP:BLP User keeps reintroducing unsourced criticisms of the subject, and reverting other improvements. Not sure this is the right place, sorry!. Verbal chat 21:48, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Comment If it's a problem with only one disruptive user then that user should be blocked, rather than protecting the article. I'll look at the history. --Ryan Delaney talk 23:36, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
This looks like a bald edit war and both editors are culpable. Follow dispute resolution. --Ryan Delaney talk 23:40, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Manual of Style (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary full protect. Two experienced users edit warring. MBisanz talk 20:37, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Fully protected for a period of 2 weeks. After 2 weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. rootology/equality 20:41, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Comment In this case it may have been better to block the edit warriors rather than preventing others from making good-faith edits to the article for such a long period. --Ryan Delaney talk 20:42, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
I'd be willing to unprotect, should those two both agree to not war on the MOS talk page. I'll post there. Next time, though, blocks, yes. rootology/equality 20:45, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
See here. rootology/equality 20:47, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
This is a possible way out, but I think you'd be fully within your rights to say, instead, "I'm going to unprotect this page tomorrow and anyone who engages in edit warring will be blocked." You don't have to get the consent of the edit warriors to block them if they continue their edit warring. Maybe your approach is more diplomatic though, so I hope it works out. --Ryan Delaney talk 21:19, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] User talk:RoryReloaded/Archive 1 (edit|user page|history|links|watch|logs)

Indefinite semi protection, don't exactly want history to get wrecked by a rogue IP. Rory (reply on my page!) (talk) 21:21, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Done Rjd0060 (talk) 21:26, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Manual of Style (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) again

Please unprotect page and warn the two edit warriors instead: User:MBisanz asked for temporary full protection of this important project page because "Two experienced users edit warring." Within 4 minutes, User:Rootology fully protected the page for 2 weeks. It is unreasonable and unnecessary to penalize everyone else because of the actions of two identifiable editors. User:Ryan Delaney commented to the same effect above. In response to that comment, User:Rootology offered to unblock if the two warriors agree to stop warring. However, these two should not be permitted to hold everyone else hostage to their war. In my opinion, the following is the correct action:

  1. Warn the two warriors that they will be blocked if they edit the MoS, and that the dispute should be resolved by consensus on the MoS talk page.
  2. Unblock the MoS.
  3. The section involved should be restored to what is was before the current dispute, and should not be changed in substance unless a clear consensus for change is reached on the MoS talk page. The consensus, if reached, should be implemented by editors other than the warriors.
  4. Warn everyone, on the MoS talk page, that further editing of the section involved that does not conform to this resolution will result in blocks of the offending editors.

Thank you. Finell (Talk) 21:23, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Done. Good points, and I'll issue the warning there. rootology/equality 21:27, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Hollie Steel (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Page has already come under attack by disruptive edits from numerous anon-ips, i can't continue reverting for much longer before i'm bound to get caught up in a 3RR. Semi-Protection for a day or two should help solve any problems that may arise. Uksam88 (talk) 20:46, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 weeks. After 3 weeks the page will be automatically unprotected. BLP, and a child to boot. rootology/equality 20:49, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Washington (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, It was protected before but needs re-protection. . South Bay (talk) 20:27, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months. After 3 months the page will be automatically unprotected. Seems pretty long-term, and also long prot due to BLP concerns, with commentary about the Governor of the state. rootology/equality 20:43, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

I am also requesting semi-protecting for Minnesota Cuke and the Search for Noah's Umbrella (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs) and List of VeggieTales characters (edit|talk|history|links|watch|logs). All three have been under heavy IP nonsense vandalism. American Eagle (talk) 18:18, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
