Jodi Lerner is a fictional character on the Showtime television network series The L Word. She is played by the American actress Marlee Matlin. Jodi is a deaf sculptor and artist-in-residence at California University, who has a relationship with Bette Porter, the Dean of the Arts School. Jodi and Bette are together throughout seasons 4 and 5 of the show. The relationship reaches its climax when Bette starts cheating on Jodi with Tina Kennard, Bette's former long-term partner. Jodi realizes Bette has never stopped being in love with Tina when the cast goes on a long distance charity bike ride to raise money for breast cancer research and when camping one night, a game of "I Never" turns to the issue of cheating. When Alice points out the fact that Bette has repeatedly cheated on past girlfriends, Jodie jokingly asks if she's cheating on her. After she asks the question and Bette is not able to say no, Jodi finally realizes that Bette has only been using her the whole time for sex. The tense and constant eye contact between Bette and Tina didn't exactly help to keep things under wraps. She gets her well-deserved revenge by publicly revealing her latest work, a multimedia presentation that features recordings of Bette's voice saying sexually explicit things.

Jodi's easygoing manner and independence conflicts with Bette's driven, controlling tendencies and her need to protect people.
