The Milwaukee Public Museum is a museum of human and natural history that interprets the world's culture and natural heritage through collections, research, education and exhibits.

Created in 1882, the museum has many interesting exhibits such as The Streets of Old Milwaukee, The Living Oceans, The Rain Forest and Butterfies Alive.

Docent Guided Tours: Museum Highlights

Guided highlights tours will cover the main permanent exhibit areas on all three floors (excluding the Titanic exhibition). Groups can also request that their docent focus on an area of particular interest if they choose. Free with regular museum admission. For more information, please visit the website linked above.

Museum Lecture: Great Lakes Shipwrecks

Tom Farnquist will discuss many highlights of his life's work, including the mission of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society, which he founded, the raising of the Edmund Fitzgerald bell and the Society's most recent shipwreck discovery, the steel steamer CYPRUS. Farnquist has helped locate several previously unlocated shipwrecks, and has played in integral role in preserving Great Lakes maritime history since the 1970s.

Cabinets of Curiosity: Wondrous Objects & Extraordinary Stories

Themed in honor of the Museum’s 125th anniversary, this exhibit illustrates the vast scope of MPM holdings by highlighting four aspects of the collections- diverse range, odd extremes, intriguing collection stories, and obscure object functions. Cabinets of Curiosity is the culmination of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee/MPM Museum Studies program, through which students develop the annual exhibit from inception to completion.
