Could be that Chief is heading back to Reach after the Fall, adding Time Travel would really mess the story up. Or we can go with the assumption its a Prequel.
Chief did go back to Reach in Halo: First Strike, which happens between Halo 1 and Halo 2.

there is no point in Time Traveling back to when Reach fell cause it happened right before halo 1 and also a bit between halo 1 and 2

Reach takes place BEFORE the entire Halo trilogy.

LOS ANGELES--When Bungie left Microsoft, the developer expressed an interest in expanding its horizons beyond the Halo universe. Despite that, the developer will be returning to its signature series at least once more, as Microsoft today revealed the Bungie-developed Halo Reach during its 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo media briefing.

The game was announced with a teaser trailer at the end of a segment dedicated to this year's Halo: ODST, which will arrive with an all-new co-op mode on September 22. The trailer showed a planet--ostensibly Reach, the planet where Spartans are trained--with a variety of radio chatter in the background. The radio chatter grows appropriately panicked as the planet is apparently "glassed"--or bombarded with plasma weapons--by the Covenant.

The trailer concluded with a notice that Reach falls in 2010. After the trailer, a Bungie representative announced that gamers who purchase Halo: ODST will be able to access the Halo Reach multiplayer beta on Xbox Live Arcade.

If you have beat Halo 3 on Legendary you will see Chief's ship floating towards a planet, I am lead to believe this planet is Reach or the planet seen in the Halo: Reach trailer. The planets look just about the same, Think what you may want to think. I think when chief goes through the portal and the ship gets cut in half Chief actually went back in time, This means we could be fighting a Spartan 117 in Halo Reach.

I have not read any of the Halo books so I do not know if Reach is a planet, I would love a correction to the main paragraph.

Reach was a planet. It was a major human colony that the Covenant attacked and glassed. That was one of the major events prior to Halo: Combat Evolved. It was after it was attacked that the ship "Pillar of Autumn" used the randome slipspace jump and ended up at the first Halo, Installation 04. I don't think that palnet at the end of Halo 3 was Reach.

Reach was a planet controlled by the military. Covies came and started a big battle. This will be a prequel.

The frigate had two parts still, even though they weren't together.
One half of MC's ship made it through the jump, the other half did not.

Also, in the trailer, they say SPARTANS, as in, more than one. Master Chief was the last surviving one after reach I do believe.

Master Chief wasn't the last Spartan after Reach fell, but he also wasn't on the planet surface for the battle of Reach. Chief took blue team to the dead ship to follow the Cole Protocol. I believe this game will follow the rest of the 70 or so Spartans that went to defend the generators for the Orbital MAC's, it would make for an epic game. It would be pretty cool if you get to play as Chief in the Space Op. Zero gee environments and what not. Plus, the Chiefs first encounter with an Elite! Wort-Wort-Wort

my early guess... bungie is doing a prequel in order to set the stage for all of those who haven't read the books... after playing Reach, everyone will know exactly where the chief is and have a better understand of the dire predicament he now finds himself in... asleep or otherwise...

If my memory has served me right then Reach was the planet that the Spartans were trained on. In the video it says "we have Spartans on the ground." The key thing being the plural form of Spartans. This could be before Halo: CE and where a majority of the original Spartans were lost. So, it could take place on Reach before it was ever glassed and this is its story, not the Chief going back in time. Possibility?

You are partially right.

Master Chief is going to be in it, but it will not be from the "back in time" as you see. From what I think, it may be based of off the book, so you may want to read it.

No it cant be because in Halo Wars They showed 2 ships around Reach [Pillar of Autum and the frigate venting atmosphere] Not masterchiefs section either since his ship was cut in half .

You really should read the books, not being a jerk, but they really are good and will clear things up. Essentially Reach was destroyed by the Covenant. Many of the Spartans were killed in its defense. The Elite that eventually becomes the Arbiter was the General in charge of Reach's destruction, but he lost his commission after he chased the Pillar of Autumn (Halo CE) and they came across the first Halo only for it to be destroyed by MC.
