Community Spotlight - Studio's Choice
...mostly.

We're also mixing in some other, non-Mythic examples of user-created content we found particularly awesome for this week's not so communal "Community Spotlight."  Think of these submissions as a general spotlight where we let you sample wares from a bunch of different platters.  Like one of those cheese festivals except we don't have any cheese.  Or crackers.  Man, come to think of it, this would have been way better with snacks.  But we digress.

Another aside: If you and the other members of your fine, upstanding, and very patient group are currently in the queue waiting for your time to shine thinking, "Hey jerk, what gives!?," we apologize.  Bear in mind that we're only taking a brief detour from the usually scheduled programming.  The Community Spotlight you were expecting will be back in full force soon.

As mentioned, for this week we hand-selected the Screenshots, Film Clips, and Map Variants we're putting on display.  We swiped the Game Variants from MLG, since the last time they got some spotlight love we only published half of their most up-to-date offerings.

So, without further ado, here's a quick rundown of this week's Bungie Favorites.

Screenshots

This isn't the first time we've come across TheMoleN and his work. We've used his images a couple of times for our news articles and at least once in our Tag & Release series. But you should take a look at all the stuff in his File Share. Seriously. We don't know where he came from, but his screenshots are pretty pimp-o-licious. That said, before now TheMoleN has never made our list of Favorites. We figured it was time we rectified that.

Prepared.  Dropped.  Now What?

A pair of images came to us by way of Xi U2 RoKKeR iX, but again, there's a ton of primo screenshots in this player's gallery. The two we've plucked out are "Thermal Abyss" and "Lonely." The former gives us this really cool "Feet First into Hell" vibe, the latter is less about theme and more about design and composition. We find pretty colors and simple patterns distracting.

Liquid Hot Mag-ma

Inked In

o0JAKEOo is another screenshot veteran you've more than likely run into if you like to stare lovingly at Halo 3 snaps. This File Share is just packed with really creative and one-of-a-kind stuff.

The worst part about it is that they level up with you.

Chrome3agle has also been given some Bungie.net face time, most notably with one of his screenshots supplying the imagery for a recent Community Spotlight. But once again, his File Share is devoid of any Favorites nods. We're bobbing our heads now. Specifically, we like "Digital Bind."  We don't know what a Digital Bind is exactly, but whatever.

Halo 3 Holographics

Saved Films & Film Clips

Good news.  You don't need to fire up your Xbox 360 this week in order to see the selections in the Saved Films & Film Clips category.  Thanks to Render-to-Video's public beta provided lovingly by our online team, all you gotta do is click the links to get some face time.

Sarkathlon Winner

This dude won him some fancy-dancy Recon by completing Mr. Sark's Challenge in record time.  Wanna see how he did it?  Click the link and check out his moves.

Return to Sender

Two grenades and seven seconds.  There's nothing too flashy going on in this short clip, but what does go down is pretty wild.

What Goes Up...

You might have seen this clip before.  It was whipped up into a pretty hilarious YouTube video complete with supplemental and inappropriate adult annotations. (That means there were naughty words).  Here it is in its raw form.  It's still pretty amazing, even without the additional effects.

One Shot, Many Medals

An entire team's plans thwarted with one well placed shot.

Flippin' and Stickin'

Two players and one Mongoose.  Feelin' the flow.  Using the Brute Shot.  Workin' it.

Map Variants

Unlike the Film Clips, you'll need to download the Map Variants from Bungie Favorites for the best experience.  Either queue them up from Bungie.net or grab them from the game UI.  These five variants on display represent a pretty wide range of what players can create using Sandbox and The Forge.  We've got a racetrack, a Grifball arena, a remake of a Halo 2 map, and two originals that work for more standard Halo play.  Take these into your Custom games and give them a good spin.  You'll be glad you did.

If you're not the type to be swayed by wordplay, here's a couple of shots to motivate you.

Game Variants

As mentioned, the Game Variants are all taken (stoled!) straight from MLG's official File Share.  Though most of these are already available via the MLG Matchmaking Playlist, we figured some people might want to have them on hand locally so they can get some practice in.  Version 6 of MLG's gametypes have been out for a little while now, so if you haven't familiarized yourself just yet, fire up your 360 and take them for a spin.

Hope there's at least a couple of things to your liking in the mix this week.  If not, scram you ungrateful little jerk!

We kid.  As always, all of these files are now available for download to your Xbox 360.  If you're away from your living room and you want to have a look from Bungie.net, there online in Bungie Favorites as well.  Get 'em while they're hot.

Honing in.

As quickly as we made mention of Leviathan's new comic series, he's crafted a fourth entry.  If you enjoyed the prelude and the opening trio of episodes, you should definitely tune into this new one.  It seems as the storyline progresses, so does the art style.  Pretty nice.

You saw the video, now get the commentary.

Hawty McBloggy took the time to dissect her role in the first match played on Rooster Teeth's new Sandbox Grifball court.  It's loaded with pretty pictures and plenty of euphemisms.  Double entendre too.  You know the McBloggy deal.
