Acting SABC board chairperson Ashwin Trikamjee has stepped down, according to radio news reports.
SABC chair out
Various radio stations including SAfm have reported that Trikamjee, who was appointed as the interim SABC board chair after Kanyisile Mkonza resigned two weeks ago, has stepped down.
Parliament’s communications chairperson Ishmael Vadi earlier questioned the appointment of Trikamjee as interim chair, saying that only President Jacob Zuma could appoint the interim SABC board chairperson.
A number of SABC board members have resigned in the last few weeks, rendering the board nonfunctional as it is longer able to constitute a quorum.
The public broadcaster is facing huge financial problems and accusations of mismanagement, incompetence and corruption.
