Forge Cafe and Forge Hub face off.

You might think that these two groups' similar focus would cause a little bit of tension between them, but that's just not so.  Last Sunday, they linked up, threw down, and had some fun on their own pool of custom maps.  If you want to check out the Post Game Carnage, click the link below and witness the aftermath.

"Forge Hub's "Sunday Night Fights" series hosts a battle between two Forge-focused groups, with only one possible outcome. With both teams geared up and ready for battle, they fought it out to the bitter end. There were a lot of laughs, and a few tears were shed.

Three maps were selected for the "Humpday" all made by both groups' members. If you want to see the results, and check out some shiny pictures courtesy of Forgehub, click the link below."

Thanks go out to anyone who played and those who donated to play or donated just for the heck of it.  All the money went to the Child's Play Charity where kids in Seattle Children's hospital will be able to have a way to get that "at home feeling."

We thank you all for the clips, screenshots and funny images that you came up with.  Remember that its not all about the armor.  Its all about how you can help people with even that little $5 bill that floating around in your wallet.

Just let it go.

Louis Wu from HBO personally contacted me to talk about his affinity for puffy muscly menz dressed up in seductive SPARTAN gear.  I was appalled and ready to block him from my Internet forever, but just before I pushed the button he sent along a link to this video and I decided to give him a reprieve.  Go ahead and click it.  It's safe.  I made sure of it.

"Now that...is some love."

LeeKegan reported in from the 405th and delivered a briefing on an amazing recreation of the M6C/SOCOM he's been building from scratch.  If you would have told me that he's been whittling away at this for a year, I'd still be impressed.  Of course, the render was only just released on the 1st of June. Truly amazing work.   You should definitely check this out.

And it turns out some other folks from the Soaring Hammer Team have been hard at work on a CQB helmet, some standard Marine helmets, and some Plasma Grenades as well.  They've got pictures of their brilliant work up on their website, should you want to check those out too.  And you should.  Because they are awesome.

Summer Mythic Recon Challenge: Part II

Posted by urk at 6/18/2009 9:29 AM PDT

You should probably read the rules.

Tonight at the stroke of 12, the Floodgate Challenge will come to a close. Hundreds of you accepted the challenge and brought the Flood invasion of Voi to a screeching halt at its most grueling level. You have done well, my Mythic brethren. A winner will be chosen shortly and crowned with the trophy of Recon Armor. You've earned it. Those who don't win the armor will STILL walk away with a shiny new "Floodgate Mythic" medal on your Halocharts page. Though I will be submitting the database to their site, if you want to jump the gun, you can send a message to HC Redemption, the artistic mastermind behind the medals, (with proof of course) and he will gladly pin the reward on your profile. Everyone who succeeded in this challenge should be very proud of themselves.

Now onto bigger and better things. As SMRC Part I slowly winds down, Part II: Electric Boogaloo arises. Your mission? Conquer Halo, the final mission in the game, on Mythic Difficulty (Legendary, all 13 skulls activated, FFA scoring enabled). Again, this is a solo run, so you'll have to tell your friends to submit their own entries. But before you do, before you submit anything at all, be sure to READ THE RULES to make sure your entry qualifies for the raffle. Everything you need to know is listed there. If you have questions that aren't covered in the rules, you can ask them in this thread. Since I will be sifting through tons of entries, sending me a private message with questions will most likely be ignored. Your best hope of getting an answer will be here. And of course, for questions pertaining to Mythic itself, you can ask away in this thread located in the Halo 3 forum.

Remember to PM your entry to me (Tyrant122312) and include a hyperlink directly to the Halo Mythic run in your file share. Instructions on how to hyperlink are included in the RULES. If you send me a message typing in your Xbox Live GT and ask me to go on an expedition to hunt down your Tag and sift through your file share for you to find all the info I need, I'll give a little chuckle and hit the delete key. Read the rules and do it right if you want a shot at that Recon. Ah, and no need to tag it. The hyperlink will suffice.

For those of you who went the extra mile and chose to read this far, I will reward you with a few tips for your Mythic run on Halo. I have a complete walkthrough you can use on your journey in addition to a more up-to-date 2.0 version that will likely get you through the mission even quicker. Both 1.0 and 2.0 videos are also available in my file share for download. It's a step up from Floodgate in the sense that the Flood now have more formidable weapons at their disposal, the trick jumps at the beginning of the mission are, well, trickier than anything you had to pull off during Floodgate, and of course there's always that possibility of plummeting to your death near the end of the mission. But have a look at the guides, try practicing on easier modes first, and you should be set. Nothing overly complicated for a soon-to-be Mythic Conqueror :-)

Real 7alk's Favorite Files Updated

Posted by urk at 6/17/2009 10:12 AM PDT

Back and ready to blend.

Real 7alk returns to complete the second week of their Community Spotlight.  They don't have a ton to talk about this time out, but it looks like their  website is back up (sorry, dudes) and they have a bunch of new files ready to go.  If you're looking to take their favorite offerings for a spin, you should get your read on and learn a little bit about one of their favorite maps they put on display back in week one, Blend-O-Matic.

Q. What was the inspiration for this map?

A. I honestly can't really say what inspired Blend-O-Matic. I think I was just wanting to create a massive structure that would toss around bodies and have a good laugh. But it ended up being probably one of the most fun minigames I've ever played with the "Smoothies" gametype.

Q. How long did it take to whip up?

A. The whole thing probably took around four to five hours to complete.

Q. What aspect took the longest to blend smoothly with the overall concept?

A. Angling the Grav Lifts and Mancannons to launch the zombies, errr, food particles around and out of the blender effectively.

Q. PurĂ©ed Zombies.  Awesome.  After investing some time with Forge, what do you think could have made the experience a bit better?

A. To be able to turn physics on/off and to allow easier floating and intersecting objects. 90 degree snap is overrated by the way, haha.

Like we said, short and sweet.  That's okay, they've got their second round of Bungie Favorites already deployed.  The less time you spend reading these words will translate directly into more time playing their Map Variants!  What are you waiting for?  Hit the links, fire up your copy of Halo 3, and give 'em a whirl.  That's another blender pun.  Yeah, we know.

It lives up to its name!

This racetrack really takes me back.  Remember those sweet Hot Wheels tracks you could fit together in small sections to fashion these giant, twisting tracks that ultimately would never work out just the way you hoped?  The kind my brother would wield like plastic bayonets, taking stinging swipes at my legs after I wrote my name on all his toys with a permanent magic marker?  No?  Oh, well.  Guess it was just me.

Whether or not this takes you back to the Golden Age of Painful Welts, you should check this track out anyway.  Description, video, and link to the Map Variant below.  Looks decidedly deranged.

"T7 Konvicted has whipped up a new racetrack! Don't let the name frighten you though, it's jammed packed with twists, turns and loads of fun. Luckily for us, he put it to action in a nice edited video."

Myth II: Soulblighter community updates.

"The newest update for Myth II: Soulblighter has just been released. It features all new bug fixes as well as some new gameplay options. It has been completely redone in glorious 24 bit high definition. With an all new textures cache option the game will look and feel much more intense."

While Bungie hasn't been involved with Myth ii: Soulblighter's development for quite some time, it's really awesome to see that there's still a kick ass community of players out there putting it through the paces.  If you've never played before, check out this description:

In command of a ragtag army of berserkers, dwarves, soldiers, and sorcerers, you are the last hope (yet again) of saving the folk of Madrigal and the West from the evil might of Soulblighter and his minions. Test your fortitude by challenging others on your network or online to a battle to the death, or cross swords and sages with Soulblighter himself. For fantasy gamers, this is far better than a slab of roast beast washed down with a tall ale.

If you read that beautiful prose and thought to yourself, "Holy shizzle, that sounds amazing!." it's because it is.  You should check it out.  You should also stop thinking like Calvin Broadus (unless of course, you are Calvin Broadus).

You'll still need the original game disc to play Myth II: Soulblighter, and you'll have to locate and download the fresh updates yourself, but should you be fortunate enough to own a copy or industrious enough to procure one in this modern Internet age, you'll find that you'll still be able to find folks to explode into a spray of blood and guts.
