The mission of the Bureau of Waste Management (BWM) is to protect human health, public safety and the environment, conserve natural resources by ensuring safe management of solid and hazardous waste, and promoting waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.

The Bureau of Waste Management is composed of two regulatory branches: the hazardous waste management branch and the solid waste management branch. Included within the solid waste branch is the recycling program.

Adopted Regulation R179-05 (Waste Landfill Cover Requirements) will be effective on April 01, 2008: This regulation addresses "cover requirements" of compacted solid waste at certain landfills in Nevada.
