It has to do with the fact that HaloPlanet, one of the larger sites was not included. So an over look, even after a second list. Seems very blatent. One former member of the staff wrote a letter that I hope you would all read.
Dear Bungie,
At first I was slightly shocked at Halo Planet's omission from your Valentine's Day feature. It's not that Halo Planet needs recognition however the staff is filled with Halo fans who donate their spare time to a website devoted to your game. Omitting this site sends the message that their work is valued less then that of the others.
The more I thought about it though the more I realized that not only was it the correct decision but the one I prefer. Halo Planet doesn't really add content to the Halo community. The staff doesn't spend time utilizing it's talents to create content for the community. Halo Planet is simply a portal to what the staff feels is interesting. They spend their time posting news, creating graphics directing visitors to entertaining content such as Halo Babies, and other obviously unimportant endeavors.
Halo Planet also doesn't fit in with the other "fan sites" listed. The staff and members enjoy the Halo series but are not infatuated with it. Halo is instead used as a common bond to connect a vast array of characters. Halo Planet allows and even encourages people to expand their discussion outside the realm of gaming. Civilized debates about politics, religion, etc is beneficial to todays youth. If even one person comes to HP wishing to discuss a video game and comes away a more informed individual then HP has filled a role more valuable then your average video game fan site.
So thank you Bungie for not lumping Halo Planet in with those other sites. HP is not superior to the sites listed but it certainly doesn't share much in common with them. If being unique, striving to accomplish something that really matters, means that Halo Planet is excluded or shunned, purposely or accidentaly, then it's a price I'm willing to pay.
