Jonathan Beard's brasserie is the type of place every neighborhood covets. It's a place fueled by good food rather than hype. You can see solo diners in the bar, reading a book and having an arugula salad and pizza; or a couple of friends meeting after work for a glass of wine and duck confit with stinging nettle and broccoli rabe risotto. The food is good enough for celebrations too. Beard turns out modern classics in a utilitarian kitchen, which dominates the dining room. Tables are wedged into the front window and along the wall leading to a patio designed for year-round seating.
Specialties: Cracker-crust pizza;
soups; roast chicken breast with garlic
mashed potatoes; grilled sirloin; bouillabaisse;

cloud cake.
